What weapons are actually good?
Opinions? There are quite a lot and not enough slots to equip them all. The heavy stubber is a lot crappier than I was expecting. So is the bolter. Haven't tried plasma weapons yet.

The grav gun is the best weapon imo

OK NOW I've tried plasma. The projectiles are too slow for it to be practical.

The plasma rifle is good for big enemies that are in your face where the slow-moving projectiles won't matter much. OR for when you are mobbed by many small enemies at medium range and have Perfect Aim power running. The good thing about plasma, it doesn't hurt yourself like the Gravity gun does.

And the plasma pistol projectiles move faster and are actually quite good as a backup weapon imo.

What would you suggest using against the enemy leaders who have forcefields and like to fly at you with jetpacks?

Playing on hard they can kill me very quickly. What I keep thinking SHOULD be effective is the bolter but it's kind of crap from my experience of using it.

Is the Escher's Kiss really the best standard type weapon in the game? It's a janky autopistol. Why is it that good?

Your best weapon against refractor shields aren't any guns but your bionic abilities. Use Haywire Pulse or Shock to just remove the field. Blast and Crush work also well.

The Bolter is a great weapon once you upgrade it. The magnetic barrel is probably the most important one to max out penetration and damage.

Honestly my go to is heywire pulse, Will instantly delete their shield and stun them for a moment so you can kill them or you could use the strength of booster because one hit normally takes then out and if you’re fully upgraded blast or crush will do it

Any tips for just plain surviving incoming fire? Sometimes I get shot in the face and die ridiculously quickly.

The problem is basically the INFINITE BLOODY RESPAWNING ENEMIES from place that they can't possibly be able to come from.

Most combats I am running around a LOT. never stop moving during combat, also invest in the skill that passively increases your dodge, works fairly well for me, every once in a while during boss fights, you will still get 1 shotted every so often, but that's what the medical stims are for.

You can also try using cover and popping out to do a few shots before hiding again, but I personally much prefer the run and gun style approach to this game.

I mod one of my weapons using an electric damage boost mod to blast off energy shields faster. Pull out one of your fast firing electric modded weapons and shoot them in the head. If they have a physical shield and you can't shoot their heads, hit them in the legs.

I prefer using the VPanther or Death Bringer on them, use whichever weapon has a good electric mod on it, they will go down fairly quick. Also you can make liberal use of the Perfect Aim when enemies are bothering you too much, just activate that and run and spray and everything will die.

Or if there is a wall nearby, do a wall run and your auto-target will kick in so you can wall-run and blast them while running much easier, and if your auto-dodge skill is ranked up you will also dodge most of their fire while you are running on the wall.

Alternatively you can use haywire pulse and a secondary power like Blast or Crush to deal with them.

The Escher's Kiss is quite good early game, but immediately will be outclassed once you get a properly modded up VPanther or Death Bringer. Check out my weapon discussion thread for what mods I suggest for those weapons.

Lately I have also started using the Burning Sun (plasma rifle) on enemies with a physical shield because the blast aoe effect of the plasma rifle will blow past the physical shield and they will still take damage, which means I don't have to aim for heads or legs as much using plasma.

Funny Escher's Kiss is my go to side arm

Heavy Stubber with the special barrel. Line them up and hose them down.

Escher's Kiss is great and will get you through a lot of the game if you want it too.

Just for fun though, try out the Vpanther with the following build.
1 - VPanther (full auto rifle)
Muzzle - Precision Muzzle
Barrel - Magnetic Barrel
Laser sight (pick your color)
Foregrip - Hunter Killer Foregrip
Stock - Custom Stock
Magazine - Drum Magazine
Optics - Mid-range Scope

This will do more damage, be more accurate, and have a larger ammo count with a very very slightly slower reload than Escher's. It's basically better stats in practically every way.

I tried hard to make the heavy stubbers or the heavy bolters work... but I found it either fired too slowly, or was far too inaccurate for my liking. The big problem with the Heavy Weapons in general I think comes down to their complete inability to equip the Magnetic Barrel mod. As soon as you slap that on the Vpanther or the Death Bringer with the right combination of mods they out perform the heavy weapons entirely. (I would even prefer the plasma pistol or escher's kiss above the heavy weapons personally!)

Try the Death Bringer with the following combination of mods.
1 - Death Bringer (full auto bolter rifle)
Muzzle - Precision Muzzle
Barrel - Magnetic Barrel
Laser sight (pick your color)
Foregrip - Hunter Killer Foregrip
Stock - Hunter Stock
Magazine - Drum Magazine
Optics - Mid-range Scope

And if you find that to fire a bit too slowly and not have quite enough ammo for your liking, give the VPanther build I posted in the post above a try.

I almost never aim down sights with my guns unless there's something at extreme range that needs picking off - it's hip fire all day for me! So that could be one thing that might change things a bit on which gun setup works best.

I prefer my bolter to the VP rifle anyways but I find comparing the VP rifle and a EK pistol to be very odd.
