What's going on with the status of this game?

It's still in early access but it's released? Last update was last year but not declared as final update. So I'm guessing game incomplete and halted indefinitely?

It's not entirely clear, but I'm inclined to agree. I've had an eye on this one for a while, hoping for something fun to play with friends. But a sudden change in monetization scheme (regardless of the kind) late in development generally does not bode well. It affects the development schedule and damages morale.
