Stop game's crash , HOW TO:
Hi to everyone,

Like many people, the game crashed for me every time.
To resolve the problem :

- Download 446.14 from nvidia here :
https://www.nvidia.com/en-gb/drivers/results/160022/
Don't need to use any DDU just install this driver.

- Restart your PC
- Remove all the shaders in steamapps\common\Detroit Become Human\ShaderCache

- Start the game
It will take many minutes and after that it will work perfectly fine

For the information , i've set the game to 60 fps and vsync off (i've got Gsync)

My config :
9900k
2070S
64Go RAM 3000 MhZ
2 screen 144hz 1080p

Even after a lot of testing, I did not find a solution for the constant freezes, but found something so that it only happens occasionally.

  • RTX 2080 with latest Nvidia drivers, unwilling to downgrade
  • updated Windows 10
  • Epic store version (but this might help with the Steam version as well)

First problem:
  • Once the game started it immediately froze
  • The game ran only if it was started with admin rights
  • right-click on the game's exe and choose run as administrator

Second problem:
  • After starting the game, it usually ran for about 20-30 mins, then froze with audio still playing in the background, but the application was suspended by windows and could only be closed. No error code was given.
  • On subsequent game starts, the game kept crashing after 2-5 mins
  • After having read somewhere that overlay software might be an issue I investigated in that direction

Solution
  • Disable windows game bar
  • Disable Nvidia experience overlay
  • For Epic: as the Epic launcher doesn't seem to have the option to disable its overlay, it seems to be necessary to make the files unreachable. I went into the Epic overlay folder, the default location is under
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Epic Games\Launcher\Portal\Extras\Overlay
and created a new folder and moved all EOS* files into the subfolder.
  • Steam has a similar overlay, but is thankfully more advanced and it can be disabled under Settings -> In-Game -> Enable the Steam Overlay

There might be other overlays out there, but these were the ones on my machine. Since then the game has only crashed every 1-2 hours or so, usually during a large exterior scene with quick cuts. I hope this helps someone.

Hello, for me I'm like 2 weeks new on a PC and have no clue how to reach the epic games program files. I don't know how to search it. Can you please give a little bit of information about it?

Similar laptop PC spec to your own. Followed the instructions and its working great for me. Game was crashing continuously before. Thanks :)

Installing the older Nvidia drivers worked out for me.
Thanks for this! o/

Worked amazing! Not a single hitch at all, frames are hanging around anywhere between 52-60 fps as well, rarely drops to 40 but that could be my gpu.

After much trouble and different driver recommendations this one did the trick! No crashes or freezes, enjoying the game so far.

I use a GTX 1060 6gb btw for reference.

Same here. Lowering the resolution scale to 1.00, using the lowest preset available for the rest of the options, at 1920x1080 worked for me up until the chapter where Connor is in the news studio. Now I cannot get past that no matter what I try

Al-Mothafar Jan 29, 2021 @ 1:03pm
after long journey of troubleshoot and try this and try that, I managed to make the game at least playable, and here is what I did:

* First the game was crashing every 5 minutes, crashed like 5 or 6 times (before you say it is fixed in driver, I was in the latest driver 461.40 already): I did DDU and reinstalled the latest GPU driver.
* Now the game start to crash a little farther but still a few crashes happened, I went to where the game installed, right click in the executable .exe file, from properties made it run as administrator, and enabled compatibility mode and set it to Windows 7 (I noticed a lot of players facing these issues in windows 10 no issues in Windows 7)
* For extra, I read about that XMP enabled for some system cause the game to fail, so I went to BIOS, update it to the latest, started fresh settings, enabled XMP back, and then I saw RAM voltage set on 1.35 but the real voltage was 1.34, I increased it a little to 1.36 and the real went up to 1.36 (should be super fine don't worry).

After that I managed to play the game 14 hours with only 2 crashes or 3 (1st and 2nd crash after 2 hours, 3rd crash after 4 hours and then not crashed).

My system got 8700K runs @4.9GHz, 16GB runs @3466Mhz, 1070Ti OC'ed +150/+600 game on highest settings 1440p

I think it is game related issues, there is something so sensitive or not optimized well, or something wrong with Vulkan (the error was VK_ERROR_DEVICE_LOST), as I playing a lot of high hardware demanding games without issues at all.
