Good luck to you !!!!
- I've lost 3 hours trying to get this game to work (Win 7 x64)
- why Steam is not updating their installation package ???
- securom is outdated, GFWL too !
- how many DRM do STEAM and ROCKSTAR force us to undergo to be allowed to play their so precious game ? No less than 4: Securom + online activation + GWFL + Steam
That ♥♥♥♥ makes me want to pirate games, not to buy legit versions !
Sorry for the rant, and thanks to Vault.
Finally I got the game to run after an ultimate error "SecuLauncher: failed to start application. [2000]", by setting
Steam\SteamApps\common\Grand Theft Auto IV Episodes from Liberty City\EFLC\Activation\SteamActivation.exe
Steam\SteamApps\common\Grand Theft Auto IV Episodes from Liberty City\EFLC\LaunchEFLC.exe
and Steam\SteamApps\common\Grand Theft Auto IV Episodes from Liberty City\EFLC\EFLC.exe to run as admin.
The publisher of the game has to do it :/ They just don't care.
edit: i have ran the update patch first then this
maybe i need to try Pro once,
if bought game on disc , then disc needs to be in drive .
if on steam then steam bypass disc securom when launch game .
you can with some programs make an image of the disc and run via virtual drive.
like slysoft.
but probably they don't like.
but it prevents scratches on disc .
i did that with my testdrive 1 on disc , made an image and run the image in virtual drive like slysoft or daemon tools .
there are also cracks (modded GTA IV.exe )that let you run without disc.
but illegal in steam, steam will bypass securom if installed right.
but these are old games right , who still runs a securom disc , no one.
they should release a patch and disable that crap.
and give everyone a key for steam. that bought game elsewhere.
and run with better third party.
(GFWL client and GFWL redist 3.5)
figures the lagging i was having , and probably securom issues if people just installed the new steam.
it was trying to make firewall exception for the executer in the bin folder , but did not exist there on my fresh install.
was located in :
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\bin\cef\cef.winxp
belongs in
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\bin
if in the right folder then firewall will make an exception for it automatic.
windows firewall at least , not sure about anti virus firewalls.
