Laundering Modes
What does this do and why wouldn't you just pick the largest mode? (Only just bought the game 55% discount couldn't resist)

I guess you got the new version. Laundering Modes is new so Ill have to check it out. But really it probablly allows you to set limits so you have an even flow. Banks burn a lot of cash so adjusting it down may help you.

It's handy if you are over laundering and start getting a drop in your dirty money, rather than turning laundering off you just turn it down.

Only just done the tutorial and started the story mode. But doesn't it make sense to launder as much as possible and switch everything over to clean money which is instant and doesn't need to be delivered?

The only reason seems to be that get legal money at the end of building process, so if the process stops in a middle and you cant supply more cash then your dirty money is consumed by laundring building. So you cant use consumed cash and you dont have legal money yet.
It seem to be important for yearly game and survivale mode where time is critical. In survival mode you want to minimize use of legal money. Also upkeep in cash is cheaper after reserchs.

Also, it changes the upkeep costs. For instance the Taxi company. It costs $500 per day to run at $1,500 laundering level. Whereas at the $2,100 level, it's $700 per day. But like other people said, it's mostly about balance. It seems like the overall process of exchanging money in the games is 2:1 with upkeep costs of your laundering buildings. I didn't set out to figure that out, but like, good to know.

Exchange rate is 1:1 unless you got characters that boot output with skill. So your bank consumes 5 200 for 10 days and ultimatly you get 52 000 legal money. If building if affected by character with bonus to laundring you get +% to legal money (rate goes higher). You can also get bonus from paphos resedense, it will cut upkeep cost for 50% and you ultimatly should get 2:1 legal money. Also this updade add hotel reserch to boots laundring for 20%.
So survivale mode on original maps is easier now.
