When you see a H, do that, it doesn't take much time. The homeless guy wants your radio parts in exchange for a new move.
When you see a red star mission on map, do that one, it is a new safehouse, nice for sleeping/saving/resupplying.
Later in the game when you have passed all 5 levels of a class, when the bell rings and it is time for that class the class bell on the map will be gray. This means you don't have to go to that class anymore if you don't want to and you will not be chased around for being tardy while this class is in session. You can take that time for missions or whatever you want.
That is the normal way to play. Or at least how I did it.
But it is a good idea to do most of them early on to make it easier.
Just in case I failed a class I could load the last save game and try again. Mainly I did this for chemistry class. I bought a new 360 controller for this game and it took me many times before I had the muscle memory down to press the correct button when prompted.
