frustratingly stuck on stronghold mission.

I've encountered a problem I can't get past. I breeze through the stronghold mission, but when it tells me to target the transformer, I can't do it. I've tried the slingshot, the rocket launcher and the firecrackers. I press right mouse to aim, but nothing happens. Any help would be appreciated.

It's not so much that I don't know what to do, I just don't remember what button to press to free aim, and though I googled it, I keep coming up with the console commands. I'm on mouse and keyboard.

Figured it out. In case anybody is looking for this in the future: to free-aim things like the slingshot, you have to zoom. It's up-arrow on the keyboard. You can hit multiple times to zoom in closer. You can tap down-arrow to exit out of zoom. I found it better to remap zoom to the Z key so I can reach it faster.
