How good is the pc port? I was wondering if i should dump my ps2 copy

Negative, I believe this was averagely ported by another company before Rockstar wised up about ports. I do believe the model of jimmy is a different model etc, not totally the same classic original version we all played.

Since you mentioned dumping your PS2 copy, emulation is probably the way to go, yeah.
Plus, you get some bonuses like windowed mode, or speeding up the game during loading.

it was ported by Rockstar New england they worked on the pc port and well its different cuz of the scholarship edition is basically an updated version with a different engine

Just download "fix" mod from Nexusmods and you are good to go. I am 13hrs in and it runs great in 60 fps. One mission had to be done in 30 fps and thats it. Game runs fine. Playing on x360 gamepad tho. (some classes are better on keyboard so I just switch controls for them.

I'll be honest, this game crashed on me quite a bit when I first played through it a couple years ago, but I downloaded a patch from the community and it ran significantly better. I only crashed probably 2 times after that, whereas when I didn't have the patch it crashed often.

it's a bad port, but it's not saying much since every old rockstar game has terrible PC ports.

You need silent patch if you don't want to crash every 5 minutes, and there's also shader/texture mods that makes it worth playing on PC, even though it's a terrible port.

Don't bother with the steam version. Just play it on an xbox emulator. Trust me, this is coming from someone who's tried silentpatch, definitive edition and any other possible fixes there is on the internet.

The PS2 one is not scholarship edtion, but you can still play it if you don't mind older graphics and missing out on some newer missions and classes. If you want the exact game as the one on Steam but actually playable, go for the xbox.
