The symbols on the terminal are just the order you get the clues in.
FUTILE is the only english word you can make with those 6 letters, at least as far as we could find. That being said, we are considering other ways to make it more obvious, such as changing the order you get them/order they are in the terminal.
As you say, I guessed the word easily by rearranging the letters, but I thought I had missed something by not using the phases of the moon to put the letters in order and I came to this forum to find out what. All the post-it notes and pictures of the moon seem to be indicating you are supposed to use them to decode the password, but that particular part is done for you automatically, so I got confused.
Have you also considered that relying on a player's knowledge of language to solve the puzzle may make the game slightly less accessible for non-native English speakers?
Was an nice little game though.
