Coromon
Why is Nintendo sueing Palworld and not Coromon? (Genuine question)
Palworld may look similar to the newer Pokemon games, but Coromon is the closest non-nintendo pokemon-like game I've ever seen! Still genuinely surprised, hope they don't fill a patent for this game.

I always wanted to buy this game but never got around to it. With the recent update to Nintendumbassses lawsuit what should we expect with smaller games like coromon? Are they safe? If we buy the game do we keep it or will they have some sort of update that forces it to be non playable?

Also, I said this sht last year or asked, if Nintendo would ever try to sue Palworld and what were the chances of steam removing it and they laughed at me. Look where we're at now.
As said many times before in this thread:
Nothing will happen. Nothing can happen.
They sued Palworld to intimidate Pocketpair out of their Sony deal and franchising ideas.
That's why the suit wasn't a cease and desist, that's why the compensation sum is laughably small.
The suit was mainly meant to flex TPC's muscles, and no one expected Pocketpair to show this much spine as they did.

TPC has very little ground in this case and nowhere near enough to forcably take down anything. That would require a vastly different lawsuit entirely and for the product in question to have broken the law, like directly stolen their assets or code.

Sure, just don't ignore *what* they are doing, and *why*.
They're not acting against Palworld, or even Pocketpair, they're acting against Sony striking a deal with Pocketpair to create a multimedia franchise from Palworld.
Unless you also foresaw this development, "i told you so" doesn't really apply, because TPC isn't doing what everyone speculated they would do.

Patent lawsuits are rarely successful because of common sense/logic counter arguments. Alot of the time you if you provide a creation through logic argument then it's not a violation. e.g. You have a game where you want combat pets > how do you capture/tame them > how do you store them for instant use > where do you store excess. There is only a few natural pathways these type of design choices can result in, the patent then becomes un-enforcable and illogical. It's why nobody has ever been patent sued for mounts in games, or having magic in games, or summons, or having classes and class changing.

I have no doubt it will be thrown out, Nintendo is just bitter that is has existed in a vacuum for so long with no competition and now people are deciding enough is enough, seeing Palworld in the top 3 of user metrics in steam should of lit a fire under their a$$ to actually put some effort into their own games, instead they are making themselves look bad and they are just going to lose more players.

That would require Nintendo to try

You guys *do* realize that Nintendo isn't actually involved in making Pokemon games, right?
It's like Amazon not being involved in what Twitch does. They own the company, but that's about it.
TPC (The Pokemon Company) is responsible for the game's lack in quality (as they refuse to give Gamefreak more dev time), for the IP's multimedia distribution, for the lawsuits etc.
TPC is a largely independent and has it's own management structure.
Nintendo (32% owner) merely acts as the game publisher on their own consoles.
I don't think that japanese boomer dinosaur fossils even know that Coromon exists
The models are also taken and manipulated from the Pokémon games

That has been proven false and the accuser deliberately modified pokemon models to look like Palworld models.

Seriously man, if any model stealing would be in the game Nintendo wouldnt go with patent trolling over gameplay elements and would gone straight to the "cease and desist" copyright infringment.
Nintendo doesn't like competition that poses a genuine threat to it's big IP's pretty much.
So they want to bog them down with legal expenses and disrupt their ability to support and sell their game.

Palworld was too big, too successful, it likely won't ever be able to run very well on existing Nintendo hardware so they'll never get a port to boost their Switch sales, not that Nintendo is interested in that anyway, and it got very friendly with a rival Sony.
Palworld also seeks to compete with Pokemon in every other way possible, merch, toys, anime etc etc.

Lot of people don't know this but the Pokemon games are not the golden goose when it comes to this franchise.
Nintendo make far, FAR more money off selling pokemon merch than the do from the actual games.

Add to that that recent pokemon games have been pretty damn crap despite selling well.
Lot of fans have been very critical of them and many have walked away from the franchise in recent years (myself included)

So yeah Nintendo should be worried that a rival has come along and given them a black eye.
Frankly it's long overdue if you ask me.

Nintendo needs to loose though, this whole concept of putting patents on game mechanics is not just outrageous and stupid but it's also a very slippery slope that'll ultimately kill, or seriously restrict creativity in this industry.

Nintendo is definitely not one of the good companies anymore that's for sure.
They need a serious humbling in the coming years to put them back on track.

All correct...but the focus should definitely be put on TPC (The Pokemon Company).
Nintendo merely acts as the publisher on their own consoles.
As mentioned earlier, yes, Nintendo is 1/3 owner of TPC, but you also wouldn't blame Amazon for Twitch's moderation decisions...
TPC is, for all intends and purposes, an independant company.

This is a feud between TPC and Pocketpair (or rather Sony for creating "Palworld Enterteinment Inc").
Nintendo has only secondary involvment in this.
Its a cheap tactic to get Palworld off their back sicnce Nintendo does not allow for any competititons. Especially since theyre partnered with ps4

Palworld stole assets and designs from the Pokemon games, Coromon not.

Even if a lot of people seem to cope that Nintendo is just jelly, there are videos that show that they used the same models and just altered them, but i don't know, if they used AI for it.

No they didn't, and Nintendo is throwing more money away. They are just angry because someone did it better. No assets were from Nintendo so I really don't see what you are even commenting on.

The best part is that the source where this claim originally came from admitted that they had to modify both pokemon and palworld models for this argument to work.

If you have to freehand draw a pikachu and increase its lenght just to claim that your also modified "electric bunny" model from X game is the same then you are not only lying but are also proving that your followers are stupid.
And if i remember correctly and based on development time, they would have had to import models from Sword/Shield which were notoriously broken. So if they had stolen assets, they would have ended up with more work to fix their rigging than just making them themselves.
コロモンは大丈夫だと思うよ
任天堂に対しての敬意を忘れない限りはね
