Nothing will happen. Nothing can happen.
They sued Palworld to intimidate Pocketpair out of their Sony deal and franchising ideas.
That's why the suit wasn't a cease and desist, that's why the compensation sum is laughably small.
The suit was mainly meant to flex TPC's muscles, and no one expected Pocketpair to show this much spine as they did.
TPC has very little ground in this case and nowhere near enough to forcably take down anything. That would require a vastly different lawsuit entirely and for the product in question to have broken the law, like directly stolen their assets or code.
They're not acting against Palworld, or even Pocketpair, they're acting against Sony striking a deal with Pocketpair to create a multimedia franchise from Palworld.
Unless you also foresaw this development, "i told you so" doesn't really apply, because TPC isn't doing what everyone speculated they would do.
That would require Nintendo to try
It's like Amazon not being involved in what Twitch does. They own the company, but that's about it.
TPC (The Pokemon Company) is responsible for the game's lack in quality (as they refuse to give Gamefreak more dev time), for the IP's multimedia distribution, for the lawsuits etc.
TPC is a largely independent and has it's own management structure.
Nintendo (32% owner) merely acts as the game publisher on their own consoles.
Seriously man, if any model stealing would be in the game Nintendo wouldnt go with patent trolling over gameplay elements and would gone straight to the "cease and desist" copyright infringment.
So they want to bog them down with legal expenses and disrupt their ability to support and sell their game.
Palworld was too big, too successful, it likely won't ever be able to run very well on existing Nintendo hardware so they'll never get a port to boost their Switch sales, not that Nintendo is interested in that anyway, and it got very friendly with a rival Sony.
Palworld also seeks to compete with Pokemon in every other way possible, merch, toys, anime etc etc.
Lot of people don't know this but the Pokemon games are not the golden goose when it comes to this franchise.
Nintendo make far, FAR more money off selling pokemon merch than the do from the actual games.
Add to that that recent pokemon games have been pretty damn crap despite selling well.
Lot of fans have been very critical of them and many have walked away from the franchise in recent years (myself included)
So yeah Nintendo should be worried that a rival has come along and given them a black eye.
Frankly it's long overdue if you ask me.
Nintendo needs to loose though, this whole concept of putting patents on game mechanics is not just outrageous and stupid but it's also a very slippery slope that'll ultimately kill, or seriously restrict creativity in this industry.
Nintendo is definitely not one of the good companies anymore that's for sure.
They need a serious humbling in the coming years to put them back on track.
Nintendo merely acts as the publisher on their own consoles.
As mentioned earlier, yes, Nintendo is 1/3 owner of TPC, but you also wouldn't blame Amazon for Twitch's moderation decisions...
TPC is, for all intends and purposes, an independant company.
This is a feud between TPC and Pocketpair (or rather Sony for creating "Palworld Enterteinment Inc").
Nintendo has only secondary involvment in this.
No they didn't, and Nintendo is throwing more money away. They are just angry because someone did it better. No assets were from Nintendo so I really don't see what you are even commenting on.
The best part is that the source where this claim originally came from admitted that they had to modify both pokemon and palworld models for this argument to work.
If you have to freehand draw a pikachu and increase its lenght just to claim that your also modified "electric bunny" model from X game is the same then you are not only lying but are also proving that your followers are stupid.
