Everything else about this game is on point, but the encounter rate is a huge turn-off.
you can buy repels for pretty cheap at the shop if thats too annoying for you
Didn't even consider this. Thanks. I forgot that was a thing. Generally I fight all battles in JRPGs, never run away, and always like the grind, but when I'm looking to navigate a dungeon and keep getting caught it becomes too much. I'll go back to playing this thanks to you making me aware repels are a thing. I knew they were in Pokemon but as I said, I never really shy from fights 'cause I want to level up anyway.
I have the same experience. Started playing today and the encounter rate is crazy. can verify the '2 steps and next encounter' being a real thing and sort of a bummer. Given the 'potential' stuff Coromon has, I find myself not caring to raise anything that isn't at least potent so I have 4 mons all some 10 levels over the boss I just fought which makes this really weird. and the potential math seems wrong too, the chance is absurdly low. Trying to catch 2 p14+ coromons for the sidequests grinded some 30 levels for me across 4 mons.
I could limit the levels I can gain but then all I get is zero rewards for still dealing with random encounters. It's just not well designed. Which is weird as you have that glove gadget and it would've been so easy to just slap an 'attract' skill on it and lower the standard encounter rate drastically.
yeah but what are the chances of getting 30 encounters in a row within fewer than 5 steps walked? Also, other games figured out how to generate more appropriate and not as interruptive random encounters ages ago. the game seems to really want to pad gametime with both the high encounter rate and lack of exp share.
I get the point for caves, but encounter rates for grass is fine imo
there are 2 items that give 50% that I also own and then a few that give 20% of the exp, that's not exactly EXP share. Running around in a circle oneshotting some coromon to level up a few others at a slow pace isn't fun, especially when you get rather disappointing skills as you level up. It's not exactly a mechnic that makes the game more fun to play.
