I have a problem to play GTA I
I get the following error
" error message 268.473 cannot find suitable display mode"

I can not find the solution to the problem, and use virtual desktop
and will not let me play

and use the compatibility mode in all versions of Windows
Change the resolution to 640x 480 and nothing

I need help to answer that problem

Im having Trouble with GTAIII and GTA vice city. When I launch them the screen flickers a bit, meaning its obviously trying to open, but then nothing happens. The application isnt in task manager and I cant find the process. Any ideas?

me too, GTA 1 crash everytime I start it. Steam fix!

This is honestly the first problem I've run into in years of using Steam. It hardly seems like much of a workaround to use DOSBox when surely Steam advertises itself as a tool that automatically finds and installs the correct patches for you... a lack of QC here from Valve? I'd surely love to try and get this working in Win7 64bit but my Google-fu just leads me to believe I'm not the only one suffering with this...

MoD they did the same ♥♥♥♥ to GTA IV its more of a rockstar screw up even though Steam should of been able to fix this

Sureley they should check if a game works before realeasing it, although alot of companies forget that quality comes before deadlines.

The best way I found to play gta1 was to install a virtual machine with windows xp (you can get it at piratebay). This is the only one I tested so far and I can say its fully working. I will check gta2 & 3 later.

ive set up a virtual machine running windows xp, but i dont understand how to transfer files over, or do i just redowload steam and the game onto the Virtual box?

Last night I started it just to get the first time install out of the way and went into a game and it showed me on the street and I jumped in a car then quit the game. Today I tried to start it and I have the same issue as the rest of you here. Something is off about this if it worked once.

you have to download them again when you are in your virtual machine.

yeah, just download VMWare Fusion and a windows xp version ready for it. You can find both easily in the most used torrent website ^^
