Has anyone passed it on normal difficulty ?

I have. Use your javelins to help out the reinforcements, then as soon as you secure that first area, set down some defenders to protect against the offensive party. Once they are defeated reinforce with enough defenders to be left alone (~8) and advance on the farm and the base behind the city. From there it should be business as usual.
