The game's singleplayer content is rather lacking and story mode is pretty much a glorified arcade mode. So if you want to get this for singleplayer, I'd say there are plenty of better options out there.

Story Mode is mostly just for introducing you to the characters. The story for each character is very short and only the final boss poses any challenge whatsoever. This is a game to play against someone else.
