Duck game combat. Xcom base management. Darkest Dungeon positive and negative character traits. The stealth and fulton balloon from MGS5. Then have them go on a tarkov run. Thats this game and its amazing. They even made it so that if you played the demo your save would carry over if you bought the game. absolutely amazing game. every run is unique with the traits. When I lose I dont get upset I just laugh because its usually something so obscure and funny I would have never expected. Theres a frog that eats you and if you fulton the frog and let it eat you, then you escape from the level. The amount of detail in of everything interacting with each other is amazing. 10/10 please buy this game.

This game is really cool. Combines stealth, basebuilding, roguelikes and platforming.

A friend and I had been absolutely HOOKED on the demo, playing just it for over 13 hours, so scooping this up when it released was a no-brainer. It's chaotic but tons of fun. I can't recommend it enough as a multiplayer experience. Because of how fast and easy it is for things to go horribly wrong, it really helps build clear communication and cooperation.

The game itself is a stealth-focused rogue-lite platformer with base building mechanics.
Each of your agents has positive and negative quirks that greatly effect the mission. Some will have stuffed ears, so all audio will be muffled. Others will have dry eyes and blink constantly and, yup, the screen goes black for a split second each time. Some are cowards and will freak out when spotted - but then they might also be cannibals, able to heal by eating foes, or have fast reflexes (time slowing) or have heavy feet and deal damage when jumping on enemy agents.

If you succeed in a mission, and survive, you gain XP and the agents can level out of any negative perks, while possibly gaining either new positive ones or more max HP. If an agent dies, that agent is gone forever. However, you can kidnap enemy agents on missions and then brainwash them into becoming playable agents. It gets more and more complex from there, with organ harvesting eventually showing up.
So, yes, it has slapstick humor, is cartoony, but does have that colony sim-esque morbidity, heh.

I love it. It's definitely a mainstay in my multiplayer games collection and I'll be trying to talk more and more people into getting it to join the insanity - because it's tons of fun and we could always use more of that!

Honestly? I didn't expect this to be anything special, but it's pretty good. Great, even. The developers absolutely nailed the core gameplay loop. Going on quick missions, collecting loads of stuff, and upgrading your base is really fun. Stealth isn't technically mandatory, but it's highly recommended since straight-forward combat can be very dangerous and wonky at times. The physics and movement feels natural- not too fast, not too slow, not too floaty, not too weighty...

There's not that much to critique or be upset about, in all honesty. I don't have any nitpicks, at least, not yet. While I haven't beaten the game or gotten very far in, I do hope that there are harder difficulties or alternate game modes. It'd be fun to have something like... oh, I don't know, no rewards mode where you're forced to find recruits and equipment on missions, starting with the market and having to sell your stuff for cash?

I liked it a lot initially. It makes a great first impression but gets very samey after awhile. The randomization doesn't offer enough variety and the permadeath doesn't mix well with the lightning fast chain reactions that can occur with little warning.

An absolutely chaotic game that somehow manages to combine the platforming elements of Spelunky with a touch of base management right out of Metal Gear Solid 5 / Peace walker.

How does this actually play then? You go through procedually generated levels with an objective. This could be neutralizing a specific enemy, capturing one, grabbing certain types of loot or getting through the level in a set amount of time etc. You have a fulton balloon system to both grab loot and stunned enemies. Those enemies can then be converted to join your side.

Each unit has their own set of positive and negative quirks and those can change on levelup or later be modified manually. If one of your units dies, they are gone for good. If you are captured however, you can later get missions to rescue those units.

Overall a very fun, chaotic game that I finished just around the 10 hour mark.

Has that same trait cannon fodder had where losing a life usually means losing someone who's been on your team for a long time. A great game. very addictive. a great system of character building.

What happens when you take a platformer, base building, stealth, rouguelike and add cute 8 bit gameplay?

You get possibly one of the best games ever made, Mr. Sun's Hatbox. Holy hell guys I am not joking when I say that this quite literally combines all my favorite parts of niche indie games and meshes it into a big fun mess. If you were here for the review & wanted to know whether or not you should get it? It's a definite MUST and in my honest opinion a strong contender for MY Game of the Year. //graphics, sound & artstyle//

While the 8 Bit style of yesteryear has worn its welcome, Mr Sun's Hatbox is elevated by it. Accompanied by the wonderful sfx of the entire world & the music, it's simply spectacular. As a sidenote, a lot of the little helpers you get have quirks- some of them may be deaf or hard of hearing, the way the game changes while you're controlling them, whether muffled sounds or no sound at all deserves some recognition


//Gameplay//

You are part of the most elite delivery service in the world, so DEFINITELY not FedEx.. and while delivering a hat to Mr. Sun, some ruffians steal the package. It's up to you to intercept that package right back (as he did have insurance on that). You start by setting up a base of operations, a mission control panel, staff room, storage, medbay and brig to... brainwash people you kidnap into joining your cause... Missions are scanned in the world, and their difficulty level and what you will be doing for example, killing a target, kidnapping them, surviving a raid, delivering a package, stealing a package, etc etc. You send a worker to a mission PERMADEATH IS ALWAYS ON (can be switched off but so will achievements be in the menu) so be careful, you are given balloons that will send gear, hats & enemies back to your base, upon completing missions your workers will gain exp and the reward advertised. With leveling up, your worker CAN lose bad quirks.

The ultimate objective is to get Mr. Sun's hat back by any means necessary, that will mean later on, opening up a black market, building research facilities, building facilities among other great helps. Eventually you will even be able to build a lab that can add and take quirks away!

Alright, I'm about 3/5 done with the story (what I believe) and i'm 8 hours in. Doing it completely single player BUT also, once I'm done- my partner & myself are going in it HARD cause it's got co-op. I'm estimating I'm gonna do at least 50 hours.


//Is it SteamDeck Playable?//

Yep! It is, although the control of guns feel a little weird, I still COULD play it just as I can on my computer.

This is THE Indie Game. So much brutality and such cuteness all combined so perfectly. Mr. Sun's Hatbox as aforementioned is a game that I feel could be my Game of the Year, I've been having so much fun just going into missions and getting money to upgrade my facilities, brainwashing guys I think could be useful and even came up with this cool little exploit where I buy whatever the Black Market has for 50% off and then sell it at my store for full price. It seemed really easy at first but BOY was I wrong, I kept getting my a** kicked and at one point I didn't even notice but it was the same guy molly whooping me. Ole Shade Bray, his little b* a**, taking two of my guys- I was finally gonna be able to exact revenge on him.. sending my Gunbye Steele into battle and offing him was TOO satisfying. However, later on Gunbye Steele was kidnapped and when I did a mission to retrieve him, I accidentally blew him up while fighting to get him out... Nemesis System is something I did not expect to have while playing this, but man has it made such a resounding impact on my current gameplay. I'm having so much fun with this and I since the beginning like I said, just go ahead and buy it. Guns, hats, cute little psychopaths, this game has it all.

I didn't even mention that you could rename them but I feel like every time I did, it was like putting the dagger in their last little heart.

And as far as complaints go? I really have none. Each hat has it's own purpose, even if some don't you'll be using them for research later or contracts on the black market. It's fast, and rewarding and most of all a ton of fun. i can't wait to dive back into it and get lost for another few hours.
