Spirit of the North Chapter 3 Stuck can't get ability

So in chapter 3 there is a stone that gives you a special ability you need to use on the red stone to exit chapter 3. I was able to activate the stone and it showed the fox floating and then it prompts me to bark. I click the correct button to bark but it won't give me the ability. The prompt is not faded so I know I should be able to get it. Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong? I have a screen shot of the stone I am referring to but not sure how to add it here.

If it's the one I'm thinking of, you have to hold the button to charge it up.

i thought I had it all done with the stone activation's and even watched a YT video at the same spot to make sure I was doing the right thing, but still when I go to the red stone, it does nothing but keep the fox weak. I guess there is no guidance on what I missed, so I am probably going to just stop playing and move on to another game. sad!!! Well, i finally figured it out. by crawling on the back side of the red stone and finding a type of power up stone. so for those following, go behind and crawl around until you find that stone.
