I like the part where you're a fish

Anyone else a big fan of Feeding Frenzy? No? Just me? fishy is an arcade fish feeding game developed by Sokpop Collective. Sokpop have been publishing their games on itch and Patreon for a while now, but this is the first time that most of their catalog has been available on Steam. As someone who really enjoys arcade fish games, this shot to the top of my list of Sokpop games I wanted to try right away. Here in fishy, you start as a small fish in a pond that’s split off into different areas. As you grow bigger, you’ll be able to access new parts of the pond until you eventually escape.

• I really like the simple art style that Sokpop have for their games, and that applies here as well.
  
  
• The core gameplay will be familiar if you’ve played similar games. It’s well-done and enjoyable. Who doesn’t love chomping down on little fish?
  
  
• Having the pond split off into different areas with different fish in each helps make the map more interesting.
  
  
• There are multiple endings and achievements to unlock, encouraging replayability.

• It does start to feel a little stale if you keep having to restart, since it’s a set map. So while it does have replayability, you’re probably going to want to play it over several different sessions.

All in all this is a fun little arcade fish game that should be particularly appealing to those who have enjoyed similar games. It can start to feel a little stale, but the gameplay is fun and it’s dirt cheap.

In many ways, the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little, yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgment. We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read. But the bitter truth we critics must face, is that in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is probably more meaningful than our criticism designating it so. But there are times when a critic truly risks something, and that is in the discovery and defense of the *new*. The world is often unkind to new talent, new creations. The new needs friends. Last night, I experienced something new: an extraordinary game from a singularly unexpected source. To say that both the game and its maker have challenged my preconceptions about fine game making is a gross understatement. They have rocked me to my core. I realize, not everyone can become a great artist; but a great artist *can* come from *anywhere*. It is difficult to imagine more humble origins than those of the genius now game making at SokPop, who is, in this critic's opinion, nothing less than the finest creator in the industry.

The fish goes mop mop

Steam promised me this game was similar to "Rain World" and "Hollow Knight". Definitely the adrenaline-pumping experience I was hopinh for. Truly a masterpiece.

It's basically "Feed Us" on flash sites but cute. Very nice

A fun game, especially for the price. The "eat things smaller than you" mechanic is familiar, but it is nice that they put it in a more interesting and explorable environment. The controls aren't the most sensitive, which adds to the challenge, but it can also be frustrating. It's also frustrating that you can't save, or even really pause the game, if you're getting a little bored but don't want to start all over later. However it is fun to play and nice to look at.

It's a fish eat fish (and sometimes moss) pond out there. The game has a handful of achievements to encourage you to play through a few times. Make lil' popping noises until you've eaten enough to escape the pond. I will never look an octopus the same way.

You start at the bottom of the food chain, eat everything in your path and work your way up to become the dominant pond creature you were always meant to be. Very cool short game perfect to complete in one sitting.
