Void's Calling ep. 1

Is it possible to raise reputation in Episode 1?
I've gotten far enough in game to have killed the Ogre, met the Baron, gotten quests from him and yet reputation is still 0.

That would suggest that reputation is irrelevant in this first episode ... so why have it?
Why have a reputation if it doesn't do anything.

Does anyone know of any quests that actually raise reputation?

Also the blacksmith when first met suggests the sword handle needs fixing but not until reputation is increased ... So NOT possible in Episode 1?

you can raise reputation, just checked some of my saves and it is up to 10.
it's been a while since I've played so can't recall the quests, I remember always checking with the burgonmaster to see if he had any work, there are 2 additional quests to hunt people down as well as the orge iirc

Increasing Reputation provides significant and essential benefits.

Higher Reputation provides you with opportunities to improve your equipment and skills which in turn helps you survive and win your battles which in turn keeps both your existence and your finances flourishing.

You obtain increased Reputation by requesting from and completing tasks for the Magistrate (Secretarian).

Reputation of 10 (or more), as glyntowen says, allows you to buy improvements in your sword from the blacksmith and improvements in your swordsmanship through training with the master swordsman at the castle. The latter boosts your Strength and Agility significantly.

Buying armour from the Armourer enhances these benefits further, of course.

Are there any ideas which quests or missions may give reputation?

I have been playing on easiest difficulty.

Have completed the ogre and met the magistrate and burgomeister picked up 3 of the board missions but only one board mission has been cleared.

The forest Ripper doesn't seem to appear regardless what time of day I try, spending days in the forest searching, river, barn house? or hunting. some days if not much appeared I'd reload the start of the day in forest and replay to get a slight variation ... but after a week or more of trying to get that particular quest to trigger. I've almost wondered whether it only appears in more difficult settings though if I get the quest from the board it would make sense that it's possible.

As far as I know only assignments from the Magistrate give you increased Reputation. However, there may well be other earlier actions that increase your Reputation, but at a time before its significance is noted. I'm sure someone else could tell you.

Do not expect to be given an assignment every time you visit the Magistrate. Often he will have nothing for you and as you say to the Magistrate when he tells you he has nothing at that time, you will just keep checking back with him.

As far as I'm aware, once taken from the notice board and kept in mind, the actual timing of the appearance of the Forest Ripper, as with the encounter with the ogre, seems indeterminate. Nevertheless, it is said that patience is a virtue and in this case it is amply rewarded and, I would say, very well worth the wait.

Thanks for those tips Huw Gryffin

I know I struggled to get the magistrate icon to work often, I'd click on it and nothing happens. I'd try a second or third time then give up and either reload and go somewhere else.

In replaying Voids Calling I still think it is remarkably difficult to raise reputation ... even just to get to see the Burgomeister's secretary. I managed to overhear a rumour about the blacksmith wanting Reptile skins which eventually gave 1 reputation point.

There is no point in going to castle or the Burgomeister as I have too low a reputation. Though I have tried repeatedly!!!

However quests that could increase reputation are SO random and RARE, that seems like it will never happen.

So on day 61 and Level 11 20 Str 18 agl with 1 reputation and no prospect of visiting the burgomeister or seeing a bounty on the board seems really silly.

Does anyone know of some quests I can overhear which lead to a better outcome

afair, I got 5 rep quite easily, having access to the swordmaster after that.

resieg do you remember which quests that helped you to increase reputation?

If I visit the burgomeister secretary It tells me "I don't need to be here" ... so there isn't any quests from him.

I thought the swordmaster only became available after we have been thrown in jail and met the burgomeister himself.

Okay I worked out where I was going wrong ... I didn't visit the brothel ... which meant I didn't complete the main quest "Reconnaissance."
Without completing Reconnaissance I couldn't get to talk to the secretary to get to get quests that give reputation.

Though there seem to be several quests that should give reputation which don't or didn't for me
including The forest ripper and Dead or Alive

I did get reputations from doing the reptile skin for blacksmith, Catch the scroundrel for the secretary and kill the ogre / troll. With the Scoundrel being the only quest giving reputation .. that is repeatable ... if we keep asking the secretary lots of days till it comes up again.

Turn the Forest Ripper and Ogre quests, then complete the jail scene and get back to town. Go to the tavern, get something to eat, and listen. It may take a few visits.
