Anyway, that's the objective part of things. On the subjective side, which you may certainly disagree with, most players find San Andres to be simply much more fun than IV. The setting is perfect and the atmospehere is much more friendly than the cold wannabe-serious Liberty city in IV, which feels almost depressing. The shooting is horrible, sure, but the overall quirkyness is part of what makes the game so fun. (you would know if you had ever played SA:MP) Cars in IV drive much more realistically, but is this really what we want from a GTA game? If you think about it, GTA IV didn't really bring that many improvements aside from what has become possible due to new technology. Unless you really, REALLY like bowling, that is.
THIS! xD, but again, i like both, they had their own good and bad things
Alright! By far I prefer SA, since it's has the most scenery porn (go to TVtropes for details), the highest level of freedom, no annoying friends - just annoying girlfriends, which is easier to deal with by visiting Nevada... eh, I mean the abandoned airfield. Also love how over-the-top the missions are and the customizations available. Also my own gang, and a huge one. I mean, I love being a law-abiding psychopath for the most part, but sometimes, I also want to blow ♥♥♥♥ up! The game is of course older and less impressive in assets, but that don't spoil the fun because there are so much more going on!
---------------------------------------------
I do, however, love GTAIV; I think the vanilla game took a different approach, and that gives more character to Nikko Bellic. The new assets shoot the game up to eleven, better graphics (which alone is never a bad thing), better feel of weapons (firearms has more power, and the improved mechanics makes gun-fight actually fun and challenging); the episodes are great too, new angles to the stories, and less annoying friends. TBoGT is by far the best of the bunch mechanic-wise, it allows you to do so many things so much easier with just a call.
But the 4th gen comes short being a free roam game, too much limitations, no additional properties nor enough parking spaces. Also the movement controls are a bit stiff - vehicles don't feel realistic, a car will at least drift badly if hit the break at high speed, instead of docking forward; also walking is weird - I don't bank like a plane when I turn around). If they'd just add more big options and less fake social events the game would have been much better.
However, however, bump for an official multiplayer mode.

Also, who else here wishes you can, after beating the storyline, bring all three protagonists out for a casual, good-O', bank robbery in GTA V? Or at least taking over other gangs' assets like in VCS?

I'd say San Andreas a year ago..but i just can't..and i'm sure that many of the ppl here saying San andreas still didnt play IV.
