Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas

Two Major Problems
- I can't get the game to use a 16:9 aspect ratio. I can use 16:9 resolutions up to 4k, but the aspect ratio is stuck at 16:10. Everything is stretched like hell.

- I can't dive! Every time I try to dive, I can't get two feet deep before I'm pulled back to the surface, no matter how much I mash the swim button.

I think I'll stick with the original XBOX version for now... At least, that version has all the songs and proper widescreen.

or get the disk version for PC

1. That's not aspect ratio. It's terrible UI & FoV scaling.
2. Look here in the discussions for a thread about SilentPatch & Downgraders. Do those, also get the WSHPS. Google should help you out on that one.
3. When you're diving, the swim button is space or left click. I don't remember which.
Keep pressing one of them, and your character should swim forward whilst under water.

If you're looking to have a completely HD and genuine experience, I suggest you also google for the mods that remaster the game, and all of its elements. Even the mods that bring back PS2 features such as the atmosphere etc. I have done all this and I'm very happy with the game, zero issues.

It is the aspect ratio, believe me.

I know the HUD is unoptimised for widescreen. I also know that cars that have oval wheels, or people whose heads are as wide as they are tall is not normal. I know what the graphics in 16:9 are supposed to look like, and this is definitely not it.

I know how to swim, which button makes me dive and wich makes me swim forward underwater. I know what the swimming physics should be like. But no matter how much I try to fight against it. I just float right back to the surface like a cork. Literally, just like a wine cork plunged in water. I have no idea why?! I swim/swam just fine in the Xbox/PS2 versions, so I know it's not normal.

You just have no idea what the video settings do.
Turn Widescreen on, and turn the framelimiter on.
Post some screenshots.

Without widescreen, the game would go to 4:3 not 16:10. I know how to navigate a settings menu with 5 options...

Okay, so you're just a troll who knows he's wrong. No screenshots of the problem, no help.

When you tie your shoes in the morning, when do you finish? In the afternoon, or the next morning. Do you call your friends beforehand, or would that delay the project by a few months?

By the way: San Andreas on PC always had problems. Heck, the previous Steam version didn't even have 16:9 widescreen resolutions, only 16:10. In the latest patch, they added those resolutions but obviously didn't fully fix the aspect ratio, or maybe it's just a glitch.

I haven't posted screenshots because I uninstalled the game. Because it's broken.

I never said the game was broken or didn't have problems. I asked you for screenshots so we could help. So if you want help, reinstall the game and post the screenshots, or continue complaining and asking for help when you very clearly won't get any without showing what the problem is.

Right, so you post a thread asking for help to fix it, and you don't even have it installed for troubleshooting or getting help. YAH MATE 8/8 TROLLIN'.

I don't know about all the problems the current version has, because as soon as they updated it I didn't bother launching it, I went and downgraded it and got all the mods I suggested in my first post.
Reddy Mar 23, 2015 @ 7:45pm
I just did a clean vanilla install with no downgrading, and it seems like you're blatantly wrong.

I also tested the swimming which didn't work well with the framelimiter off, the further away the framerate is from 30, the slower you'll swim. I also tried diving, and that didn't want to work at all.

You must have your widescreen and framelimiter options turned off. That or you're not playing at a proper 16:9 resolution, or you're playing at the wrong resolution and have your video driver set to stretch everything. The latter is most likely since you said your widescreen IS on. (i don't know how you can tell me that when you don't even have the game installed to check)

It works for me, and it's the same game, so it must work for you as well.

If it still doesn't work, post your specs and update all of your drivers and try again.

LOL! The screenshot you posted, THE ONE WITH WIDESCREEN ON, IS in 16:10! Just look at the car wheels, they're OVAL! Don't believe me? Go back in the game, look right at the ground and spin the camera around, you'll notice the deformation/stretching right away. Thanks for proving me right.

P.S. Framelimiter doesn't affect aspect ratio, only framerate.
Reddy Mar 24, 2015 @ 6:06pm
That's the way the game is meant to look at 16:9 resolutions. The wheels aren't oval at all. What's your monitors resolution?
P.S. I never said it did, I said the framerate affects swimming and diving and other aspects of the game. Which it does, if you've ever done research you'd know that.

I did what you said about spinning the camera around, and there's ZERO stretching/deformation. Unless you're talking about the texture stretching which exists on every single platform.
The wheels are ever so SLIGHTLY stretched, with slightly being miniscule. I've had a friend who has played this game and GTA IV for YEARS look over my screenshots and he found one of his own from GTA IV that was comparible (camera angles).
