Should I use 3.0 or 1.0?

I'm playing this game fresh, the last time being on a PS2 many years ago. What version should I downgrade to?

Version 3.0 feels a lot better to me, less slowdowns and more stability. But if you want to use mods you should downgrade to 1.0.

Ok, so I chose 1.0, got the controller mod workin so my 360 controller works better.

Are there a list of must have mods for this? Nothing drastic, stuff like texture packs and whatnot to make it not look so janky. Wanna beat the game before I start goin into the crazy modding.

Like I said in the other thread - there are some minor differences reportedly. I couldn't tell you all of it as I forgot some of the info. :) I'm sure it's been discussed somewhere on the internet though.


[EDIT]:

1.0 - the first version of the game (contains everything)
1.01 - Cold Coffee patch which fixed a number of bugs and has file protections against mods (until NewSteam came along, Digital German copies were on this EXE version)
2.0 - a retail version of 1.01 but with some additional Hot Coffee content removed
3.0 - 1.0 with file protections (it lost the fixes from 1.01 because the key was based on 1.0)
NewSteam r1 - 3.0 with cut songs, native controller support and undocumented changes
NewSteam r2 - NewSteam r1 with 1080p unlocked
