"Freefall" is the worst mission in the game.

Well this is just a minor frustration since I beat it after 5 and 6 tries but this mission is just so half-assedly written I can't help but rant about it. No wonder it's one of the few missions I still remember after playing this game many years ago and beating it back then. It's just as half-assed as the "All you had to do, was follow the damn train, CJ!" one but much later in the game and more frustrating.

I'm fine with the concept of me positioning the plane given to me as all I have to do is to fly my plane into the checkpoint above the moving plane and the cutscene then carries me to the next part but there's a lot of contexts around it that I hate.

First, the game gives me a small airplane that cannot keep up with the plane I'm supposed to land on unless it descends quickly, so the only way I can make it to the checkpoint is for me to position my little plane high above the plane below, either bit in front of it or bit work out, and descent into the checkpoint as flying downward is the only way for me to gain speed with it and gain on the plane.

Then, the plane literally only has 5 people in it, a pilot and 4 assassins. Why is the mission a failure just because the plane reaches Las Venturas? Surely I can follow it to the airport or wherever it's going and dispose of all 5 of those scum quickly because they obviously have to land before they can do their work, doesn't look like they would be using parachutes. A bigger salt in the wound is that plane literally turning back and flying back the way it came from after the mission failure trigger is hit. Literally few missions ago the game let me follow someone I'm supposed to murder after he escapes by a helicopter (Tempenney's mission) as well. Whatever happened to the after-chase part on the Freefall mission.
As much as I love this game, this attempt of showing off action set-pieces is very poor.

The key part is stay alert when the plane shows up, as soon as you see it, start heading into the same direction it goes. This will give you enough time to position yourself on top. The rest is easy.

My guy, you're making what is essentially a Reddit post about GTA:SA, one of the most basic, mainstream pieces of entertainment media with people like us. A game most of us finished a couple times. Yes, the mission is hard, yes, the game is dated.

Not the worst, you're doing it wrong. Took me 3 tries to complete it. Not that hard at all. Just don't wait to reach the plane close and see the text telling you what to do, because it may be too late. When you see the plane coming, turn right/left fast and go after it. Be a little higher than the plane to be able to "free fall" faster to the red circle. ;)
