Can't change fly modes on Hydra

By default the keys are "num 2" and "num 8". However, when I press either of these keys the fly mode doesn't change. Yesterday when I came back to the game the landing gear would go up and down when I pressed the 2 key but, now nothing happens. Last time I played the game (last year) the controls worked fine. I've tried changing the keys but that doesn't seem to change anything. I am on a laptop if that makes any difference. Thank you in advance for any and all help ^^

You have to hold num 2 or num 8 for a few seconds so that the fly mode changes completely.

in the options, vehicle controls... the game calls this "special ctrl up" i believe... since i did not have default setting it was not num 2 or num 8 anymore till i reset to default. if this helps any other dummies like me figure it out sooner
