help, all game saves have been deleted

Just opened the game to load it and all saves have been deleted..! Don't know what to do, I'm on a windows 10 laptop, gta works fine on it, never had this problem before. I'm aware of the occasional glitch on pcs where you need to tab out of the game to quit rather than clicking the usual 'exit game' button - so it's not that. Any ideas please?

Are the saves fully deleted or they still are in the Documents folder?

There is a san andreas folder, what would the save files look like? Thanks

Thanks, can't find the the saves, I've checked the bin as well. Is there something else I can do?

I'm not sure, to be honest. You can try using Windows System Restore. Otherwise, you can download a save from the Internet. I used this GTAForums thread in the past, it contains separate saves for each mission for all versions.

the vanilla version of GTA SA's Steam Version is 3.0.

Also, if you like you can read my guide to downgrade and fix GTA SA... Steam version is pretty broken. Maybe it will help you avoid more problems in the future.

Thanks Euphorim, yeah I think I'll have to download a save, could you share another link or perhaps a tutorial? I just tried it and pasted into the gta folder but the game still thinks all save slots are empty. I haven't done this before and I don't wanna mess things up on my laptop. Such a pain, I dunno why it suddenly deleted all of them I was about 50% through the game!!

I bought the steam version a few days ago and in the readme it says it is version 1.00 and there's no version number in the options menu.

Okay, some progress, I've gotten as far as saving the new game saves in the gta user files, they appear on the load menu, start loading, but once it's meant to go into the game gta just shuts itself off. - Any more ideas?

Did you try downgrading the game and using a mod loader? i got the same thing by doing that. I just use gta_sa.exe instead of gta-sa.exe if that's what is happening.

Thanks, yeah I have just tried downdraging the game and using the modloader. But it's still crashing - it crashes just after it's finished loading into the game. :/

It's frustrating, I don't really know how to edit game stuff like this!

If you downgrade the game there should be a new exe in the san andreas folder that's bigger in size. Use that one.
