Need Downgrading Help
So, I've been constantly trying to downgrade my GTA SA, with the "Grand Theft Auto San Andreas Downgrader" Located https://gtaforums.com/topic/927016-san-andreas-downgrader/ here. Now, when I first did this, it worked fine, however, I rebooted my PC so that I can get a fresh restart on my PC, reinstalled GTA SA, and the downgrader, and now the downgrader for some reason won't pass the second patch download.

I keep getting this issue: https://imgur.com/a/vvk8JAX

I have no idea what's causing it, and I've tried simple things like.. Dragging the patcher into my directory, reinstalling both, verifying my files. It seems like nothing works and Idk how to fix it to make it work, because once it hits that, it just constantly scans. I have Steam located on my D drive but, I don't believe that's the issue, considering that I had it on my D drive before. The game is freshly installed with nothing tweaked... so any help would be appreciated if you know this stuff.

I'm pretty sure you have to run the downgrader from the same drive as the root game is installed on. (gta-sa.exe). Make sure the downgrader is unpacked as well, because once it installs it adds additional files I think. But otherwise make sure when you first run it you select the root folder that the game files are in.

I just renamed my folder from the steam apps folder to "Grand Theft Auto San Andreas Downgraded" and installed the down grade there. Much easier in my opinion

Basically, what you told me about the renaming helped me with most of the error messages. It let me actually indicate where my game was, however, I still have this https://imgur.com/a/fFzsa7O then it gets stuck again.

Nevermind, all the errors came back after trying again... this is really getting me frustrated because I don't know what to do. It's a clean version of GTA SA. I did it a couple days ago and it worked before I rebooted my PC.

If you do rename the folder in the steamapps; make sure you do not create a back up when you run the downgrader for the first time. Just click no and save everything to its original spot.

Also, its hard to tell from the screenshots, but it looks like your downgrader is only checking one single file when it is supposed to be checking the entire folder. So make sure you have the folder selected. Forgive me because I am trying to recite this from memory since I stopped playing the downgraded version.

I did not create a backup file. When I run it, it tells me to locate my Game .EXE, in which I do, then it scans, but as soon as it finishes scanning or downloading the second group of "patches" or whatever, it just instantly brings up that error message, and I honestly don't know why. Because what I'm doing now didn't change from what I did before. It wouldn't let me get away with just the folder of my initial GTA location.

The reasoning I wanted this downgraded version was because it seemed a bit more pleasing to look at, since it had options to fix the widescreen and all of that, plus it had Ginput for better controller controls. I've only seen a few people have this issue and I don't know what its caused by. I even tried looking up the first line of code and got nothing as a search result, other than someone else complaining about it, but not getting a reply on how it could be fixed.

It sucks because this is a really good downgrader.. I really don't want to resort to having to find another way to downgrade my game.

Running out of ideas here. When you uninstall the game through Steam, try manually going to the steamapps folder to ensure the folder was successfully removed. And if it isn't, delete it. That's happened to me before.

Also, after you uninstall it, delete the san andreas folder in your documents folder (the one containing the save games). Then reinstall the game. On the gtaforums link, I just ran the first option (stub version, 2.1 MB).

However, when I ran it the first time, I let it update and then I closed it and re-launched it before I downgraded the game.

Ugh, I tried everything, it still isn't working... It keeps saying "Error while checking game files." then gives me the list of errors.... Thanks for trying to help though..
When selecting folders, so you click the folder then click select or do you double click the exe?

I click the folder, which should usually just select it, but I couldn't press anything that says "Okay" so it just opens the file location, then assuming, I click the exe, so that it registers that folder as my game folder. In which it is my game folder... but as I said, it just keeps giving me that list of errors, and I don't know what any of it means. I even tried, putting the downgrader in its own folder on my D drive, where my steam is, so it could register it as the location. I put it in my actual game folder...

Try right clicking and see if there’s a “SELECT” option

Maybe just try installing san andreas on your C drive instead. Its not a very big game

Everything is fine now! I didn't even touch it, it just randomly started working. I have no idea if the Downgrader runs on a site that autoupdates it or something, and it was possibly down? However, it's working now! I really appreciate you guys trying to help. Thank you so much!

why downgrade

Most cleo mods are outdated with the newest San Andreas. Plus, the newest one has content taken out of it. The downgraded version replaces the removed content. Easily Moddable, and Old Content Back.
