How do you select conversation?

I don't understand, nor does the game explain, exactly how you are to select one of the conversation options above, below, or to the side of the circle. Neither moving the mouse nor scrolling consistently works, nor does WASD. The pointer barely moves beyond the edge of the circle toward the chosen sentence, and much of the time I'm unable to select anything. If I try to make a selection, up, down, right, left, a selection is made but it frequently is NOT my selection. How is this meant to work?

Click and hold, then move in the direction you want.

I have this same question. It tells me to use left mouse button and release to select, but nothing moves when I have the left button depressed?

There's nothing to move except the mouse cursor (I think) but the "to be chosen" text is brighter than the other options.

Thanks for these answers, but the problem has kept me from playing that game since the month of March. I would say their process was not well thought out.
