Grand Theft Auto: Vice City

Is GTA IV as stable and optimized as VC NextGen Edition on 1.0.8.0 patch?
While I know that VC NextGen Edition actually runs on 1.0.7.0, I've noticed that it's also got a consistent 60 FPS if you limit it to that framerate, with nary any drops or stuttering. But something tells me that's only because it's rendering Vice City's lower resolution textures and environment. Is GTA IV's map and even default RAGE vanilla game still as unoptimized as always?

Nope, its still a technical disaster, people even dropping some weird command lines to fix texture popping (and eventual dissapearing)
You need FusionFix and DXVK to make GTA IV smooth and stable. The vanilla game has issues, but fixing it is just a few clicks away. As you mentioned, Vice City's assets are also not that heavy to render and process in comparison to GTA IV, so that adds up to the stability of NextGen Edition.

As it happens to be, someone did just release a modpack in version 1.0.4.0 and I can confirm that it runs smoothly at a locked 60 FPS with nary a drop and barely any stutter. So it's certainly achievable. Although that could also be because 1.0.4.0 is known for its better performance vs 1070 and 1080.
