Unhandled Exception - C0000005 at 006F6330 Fix

If you are getting an "Unhandled Exception - C0000005 at 006F6330" error every time you try to run GTA, keep reading.

As you can see below I had a problem with Vice City, but I've *just* discovered how to make it work. The problem lies with Windows 7's DEP (Data Execution Prevention)

To fix it, do the following:
Delete .set file from your Documents\Vice City User Files folder
Open the Start menu, in the search box type "advanced system settings".
One result will appear, click it.
In the window that opens, click the Advanced tab, then the first Settings button
Go to the "Data Execution Prevention" tab, and click "Add..." to add an exception.
Browse to your gta-vc.exe and select it.
Now "OK" all the dialogs until they're closed.

Theres a major mistake with this "Fix"

The default DEP setting doesn't apply to any application that isn't built with the capability turned on.

GTAVC isn't, Thus adding the game to this list would only have an affect if you the user already changed the default "essentials windows and services" setting to the "Turn on for all programs and settings" option.

The default setting does not allow applications to be added to the exclusion list, nor does it affect the game.

In your game directory go to the folder TEXT, if there's a file "american.gxt" rename it to whatever language your system is set to (i.e. spanish.gxt, german.gxt, french.gxt...)

So i just fixed it by deleting the d3d9 file and copying the d3d8 file into the folder

Also changed the Gxt file in the TEXT folder to my language (from America.gxt to Spanish.gxt)

Here is something I figured out and it might be useful to other people.

A very simple guide I hope is useful to someone. Have you had an issue with the game returning with unhandled exception c0000005 at <address location> WHILE loading a save game? This might be the solution you have been looking for. Look online for a save game converter and convert your save games, one by one, to make them usable again. It should be this simple. If you have the aforementioned error before even starting the game, look elsewhere. Good luck and happy gaming

still doesnt work, I have d3d8.dll, ddraw.dll dinput8.dll rwd3d9.dll in game folder, added exe to dep exceptions, have silent patch

If it's to do with dramas coming from the Windows 7 DEP, Then the "noDEP.asi" fix for San Andreas should work for Vice City then because I'm pretty sure SA had the same problem which was fixed with that (correct me if I'm wrong)

I'll test this and post back here with the results.

Uuuum you deleted your save file.... The OP had nothing to do with it nor did his instructions..... you wanna know how? I'll tell you.

1. The instructions clearly state to delete the file that contains the ".set" extension INSIDE the "GTA Vice City User Files" folder located in the "Documents" directory on Windows.

2. The file with the ".set" extension is named "gta_vc.set" and it is related to your games settings preferences for language, brightness, draw distance, controls mapping, resolution etc, etc. This file does NOT relate to your save files.

3. The Save files are the files with the ".b" extension, they sit in the same directory as the "gta_vc.set" file does. They are named in the format of "GTAVCsfX.b" (where "X" represents the in-game save/load slot number) So, a game saved in slot 1 will be stored in the save file "GTAVCsf1.b" and a game saved in slot 5 will be stored in the save file "GTAVCsf5.b.".

4. You did one of the following things which is why you lost your save(s):

- Deleted the entire "GTA Vice City User Files" folder.
- Deleted everything inside the "GTA Vice City User Files" folder.
- Deleted the "gta_vc.set" file along with your "GTAVCsfX.b" Save file(s).

The instructions did not tell you to do any of these things, nor did the instructions mention anything to do with your "GTAVCsfX.b" save files.

You are simply the one that didn't properly read the instructions.

So the "noDEP.asi" fix from MixMods for III, VC & SA certainly does fix the DEP error for GTA VC, however it doesn't completely stop that stupid "Unhandled Exception c0000005" error from happening but with the "noDEP.asi" fix it doesn't throw it with the "Windows DEP" anymore.

Weirdly when testing last night I noticed that with myself this error always popped up due to the Resolution Settings I was using (1360 X 768) and for some reason installing "III.VC.SA WindowedMode" solved that problem as well for me so far, before installing Windowed Mode the game would throw this error 2 or 3 times before actually starting and then it would throw it again either at the load screen or randomly during gameplay, but after installing Windowed Mode this didn't happen for me anymore so far as of this comment being posted.

So users should try installing the following:

1. GTA VC EXE v1.0 - From Moddb
2. Thirteen AG's Ultimate ASI Loader
3. SilentPatch
4. SilentPatch "ddraw.dll" fix

5. Thirteen AG's Widescreen Fix
- I Recommend opening the "GTAVCWidescreenFix.ini" file and changing the value for "ResX" from "0" to "1920" and the value for "ResY" from "0" to "1080" as well as changing the values for both "ForceAspectRatio" and "FrontendAspectRatio" from "auto" to "16:10" or "16:9"

6. Open Limit Adjuster
- I recommend opening the "III.VC.SA.LimitAdjuster.ini" file, locating the "[VCLIMITS]" section and setting the value for "Frame limit" from "30" to "60" and the value for "MemoryAvailable" from "30%" to either "512" or "1024" however if you are using mods like "Vice Cry Reborn" then leave this file alone.

11. "III.VC.SA Windowed Mode"
- I recommend opening the ".ini" file for Windowed Mode and Setting the value for "Show Border" to "1" so that if you do have to play on a resolution lower than 1920x1080 you can simply maximize the window by clicking that square maximize button.

12. GInput for Controller support (Optional)
- I Recommend opening the "GinputVC.ini" file and changing the value for "ControlSet" found under the "[pad1]" section, from "1" to "5" for GTA IV style controls. I recommend this because when it comes to aiming and shooting in Vice City it really is a pain in the ass with all the other control sets except for 5! I mean moving crosshairs with the right thumb-stick and firing with B/O (or A/X for 1 or 2 of the other control sets) is just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ IMO so that why I recommend control set 5.
