And expose yourself to numerous physics related issue? Sticking to 30FPS is a better idea.

On the OP - yes it theoretically supports 1080p, but the UI will be stretched and FOV isn't handled quite properly. You might have problems aiming, too.
There's a mod to fix all that though, and it supports Steam version - so installing it is literally drag 'n drop:
