Was music removed from this game?
Hello, I remember hearing somewhere that a lot of the tracks where removed due to some licencing issues, is this true?

Thanks

If I may answer, yes a few years ago the licence expired on a handful of songs, which were taken out so that Rockstar could continue selling the game digitally without problems:

Michael Jackson -"Billie Jean"
Michael Jackson -"Wanna Be Startin' Somethin"
Ozzy Osbourne -"Bark At The Moon"
Kate Bush -"Wow"
Herbie Hancock - "Rock It"
Afrika Bambaataa -"Looking For The Perfect Beat"
Lionel Richie - "Running with the night"

These were taken out after the licence ran out, but if you purchased the game before that (eg. on disc, etc) you might still have them and they should be playable. If you juuuuust bought the game though, they won't be there for you to hear anymore, sadly.

Incorrect.

The game was patched to remove the songs from the game, even if you purchased it at the time of release if you're playing on Steam or an updated PC CD-Rom version then you don't have the music.

If you're playing on a PS2 release or v1.0 Vice City exe then you'll have the original songs.

The songs can be added back into the game via mods OR by downgrading your Vice City to V1.0

That really sucks, it's terrible how digital games can't be preserved and they just keep getting patched and changed and sometimes even ruined (Like Warcraft 3) and digital only games is what we're heading too :(

No. There is 2 version of VC right now. One with old music and another one but with removed song. However, the 2 version is exactly the same. If u start a new game and u hear Michael Jackson, then everything is fine.

There are several different versions of Vice City, not just two.

PS2 1.0 Release, PS2 Greatest Hits Release, VC 1.0, VC 1.1, etc.

Each version is surprisingly different from each other in many technical ways. There are some good videos about it on Youtube, look it up.

I talked about the Steam versions and about the music. I know that stuff btw.

Oki doki.

Even with the Steam versions there are been several releases, not just two.

Nothing personal, just providing correct information.

Yea thanks for the info you're very knowledgeable and I didn't know any of that so it helps :)
I wonder if there's a way to mod the removed sound tracks back in. I just want to have the classic GTA experience with all the songs.

Downgrading does this.

https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Grand_Theft_Auto:_Vice_City#Downgrading

When you down grade to the 1.0 release you get all the original music restored to the game. Combined with SilentPatch you'll have the best of both worlds. A DRM-Free 1.0 release and no bugs/glitches.

What? The game already has all the soundtrack which was released on PC. One or more songs were not released on PC. But there is a modded FLASH.adf file that fixes that.

I'm pretty sure the PC and the PS2 had the same release tracks. Tracks were removed in 2012 from the Steam version.

Some people report they are not missing music but this is not reliable information without some form of official proof that is the case.

To ensure one has all the content same as the release version one should downgrade to 1.0. This also has t he added benefit of making the game mod friendly.

Running with the Night was not released with the PC port. Every other song is pretty much the same. But folks can easily find out. Start a new game and if u hear Michael Jackson on Flash FM, then everything is fine. MJ was removed from the mobile port for the same license problem.

Okay you're detracting from the point so I'm un subbing from this thread at this point.

For anyone who wants to get the music back into their game, simply downgrade to V1.0.

But that wouldn't do anything with the music at all. The game uses an audio file/radio station. If they change something u need to change back to the old Audio file(s).
But they didn't delete any song. Check: https://youtu.be/RjJJ2IzSXCw
Or as I said earlier if u hear MJ on Flash FM at the beginning, everything is fine.
