GTA 3 - Dual-monitor mouse click issue
I've got 2 monitors. The mouse cursor isn't sticking with the one on which GTA 3 is running (full screen), so if I click when the cursor is in the other monitor, GTA 3 minimizes.

I've tried SwapScreen. It constrains the mouse to 1 monitor when GTA 3 is not running, but as soon as GTA 3 starts, SwapScreen seems to be ignored, because the cursor can now go back and forth between both monitors. So SwapScreen doesn't help.

Is there a way to get SwapScreen to work correctly with GTA 3? Right now I have it bound to Scroll Lock; should I be binding it to something else perhaps?

And if SwapScreen does not work, what is another (free) alternative?

Thanks!

I tried UltraMon and got the same behavior: the cursor is locked to one monitor until GTA 3 runs, in which case it is no longer locked. As soon as GTA 3 exits, the cursor is locked again. Very strange!

I bond to a different key combo (ctrl-F1) and got the same behavior.

So, for some reason when GTA 3 runs, the mouse locking programs no longer work.

I used DualMonitorTools to lock the mouse to my primary screen, however when trying to turn right, once the cursor hits the right edge of the screen (I think that's what's happening at least) the camera has a REALLY hard time turning right.

It becomes extremely sticky. However turning left has no limit and turns smoothly. A fix to the mouse problem would be greatly appreciated T.T

Alright guys, just don't bother with 3rd party programs or anything.
Before you run the game, press "Windows key + P" and select the "only first monitor"-option (this is on windows 8).
Everything runs just fine. When you're done playing, just press the same button combination again and re-select both monitors.

Hit the windows button then P and switch to computer only. Then to get it back, do the same except hit extend. It will disable your second monitor :)

Dual Monitor Tools has a little app called SwapScreens which runs in your toolbar, there is a setting to lock your cursor to a screen, this keep my cursor from exiting GTA 3 fullscreen with no glitches.

Dual Monitor Tools also has some other cool stuff like the Wallpaper tool which i always use.

It's to be fixed in SilentPatch 1.1.

I accdentally uploaded a somewhat BETA version, containing a fix for this issue:

Windows+P enables single-monitor on a multi-monitor desktop. Turn on single monitor during your time with the game, then windows key + P again to enable extrended desktop. Easy peasy.

SilentPatch patches this so you can still enjoy both monitors :) http://www.gtagarage.com/mods/show.php?id=25368

Yep, nothing like good ole nostalgia to make us realize how badly designed some "classics" were...

Not just this game, but many others from the, ahem, "golden era" of videogames were designed around "false difficulty", i.e. it's only difficult because you don't know what's coming.

Like Super Mario Bros used to do... Not the reflexes part, which was the "real" part of the difficulty and challenge of the game, but the "once you get here, you need to do this" part, where you are doomed to fail on the first attempt, but once you know what you have to do, easy as pie.

GTA 3 is like that: most missions are near-impossible because they throw a curve ball at you, but once you know it's coming, it's almost too easy.

X-COM: UFO Defense also has that: it is lauded as an incredible classic, and in some ways it is, but there's also the factor of you MUST research this first, then that, then that, otherwise YOU WILL LOSE. It's not actual difficulty, it's just an "how could I know?" type of thing...

GTA 3 is rife with it. Bad design.

Sure, plus awful controls, especially camera when driving. On the other hand, compared to GTA and GTA 2, you can see the huge leap in evolution, and then you get through Vice City to San Andreas and enjoy the controls gradually sucking less and both the story and the little details like radio, advertisements, NPC dialogues etc. getting much more interesting.

Also at least this difficulty for difficulty doesn't offer micro transactions to temporarily go away :)

Works on windows 11 also the shortcut trick. And no other patch need :-).
