Can't get GTA 3 to work on windows 8.

So i just got this game when it went on sale and i cant get it to play. When i start it up, it pulls up the rockstar logo. then after it's done showing that, it pulls up a black screen and says "Error Gta3.exe has stopped working" Now i can play skyrim, fallout 3 and NV, Just cause one and two fine. I'm running a Intel(R) HD graphics, ive looked up to see even if you could play this on one. but the video i watched showed me i could. so If any of you have had or have the same problem. plz get back to me asap. i would love to be able to play this. also when i got the game, it made two copys of the game in my library one i can download from the other i cant. ps the one that i can download from i have uninstalled it and re installed it to see if that was the problem why i couldnt play gta 3 and it didnt work. so any ideas would be great and thank you for your time.

Try reinstalling then set your gta3.exe compatiblity to windows 98

i just got it to work a few mins ago and its playing fine. i just had to change some setting for it. thank you anyways :) love this game. now next is to get arma gold working lol.

i have windows 8.1 and i got the game to run by enabling directplay and changing compatibility mode

enable directplay

control panel
programs and features
turn windows features on or off
legacy components
directplay

change compatibility mode for gta3.exe

windows 98 / windows Me
run this program as an administrator

what settings you change?

i went to GTA3 Properties and changed it to play on windows XP service pack 3
and to run it as a adminstrator.
