GTA III enhanced on Windows/Linux [re3]
The re3 project is currently archived on https://web.archive.org/web/20210919044827/https://github.com/GTAModding/re3 inspite of R* delisting the original trilogy and DMCA-ing the re3 project.

In this repository you'll find the fully reversed source code for GTA III (master branch) and GTA VC (miami branch).

It has been tested and works on Windows, Linux, MacOS and FreeBSD, on x86, amd64, arm and arm64.
Rendering is handled either by original RenderWare (D3D8) or the reimplementation librw (D3D9, OpenGL 2.1 or above, OpenGL ES 2.0 or above).
Audio is done with MSS (using dlls from original GTA) or OpenAL.

The project has also been ported to the Nintendo Switch, Playstation Vita and Nintendo Wii U.

Installation
  • Download the build for your respective platform (Windows/Linux/MacOS)
  • Extract the files into your GTA III directory, and
  • Run the re3 executable to launch your game. No need to install anything.

Bonus : Arch Linux users can find the re3 package in the AUR here [aur.archlinux.org]

If you're new to AUR PKGBUILDs, this is what you have to do :
cd ~/Downloads sudo pacman -S git base-devel git clone https://aur.archlinux.org/re3-git.git cd re3-git makepkg -si

Or you can always use an AUR helper such as yay [aur.archlinux.org]
