GTA III Steam version is broken? How do I fix this?

I was reading the forum and have seen people saying the Steam version of the game is with some trouble. What do i fix it?

This fixed my texture problem, but I don't know if it'll fix anything else.

Make a backup of your gta3.exe

Just replace the gta3.exe with the one provided.

It's not a virus, but I'm not liable if you screw your game/PC up.

I need help, liberty unleashed keeps saying i need gta.exe v 1.1, but steam gives you the game at its most recent patch right? When ever i go on the internet to get the patch, it gives me the error : C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Grand Theft Auto 3 is an unknown version. help me please.
