Go to the 'Nvidia Control Panel".
Under '3D settings', select 'Manage 3D settings'
Select the 'Program Settings' tab
Under "1. Select a program to customize" ses if Grand Theft Auto 3 is listed - check settings. There is a "Run with Graphics processor option from the "View" Tab.
If GTA III is not listed then add it to the list from the "Add" button.
Test for changes.

That's what I did to set the game to use the dedicated driver. Settings are applied. Though when I launch the game, it still uses the intel graphics.
I know that this doesn't make sense but sometimes these things seem to do something that can perhaps solve the problem.
Already tried that. Also completely reinstalled the drivers and did it again. When I try to directly run the game with the dedicated card (Right click --> Launch with graphics card --> High performence NVidia) I get an error, preventing me from launching the game.
A graphnics error might be DirectX related, check your settings;

Andu on the above thread for the game Oblivion describes how to fix the issue. Obvoiusly for yourself this should be GTA III
Seeing the same solution for a lot of games when i search for " Application Load error 5:0000065434 "
Verify game files if you have not already done so.
Good luck.
It sounds like a plausible option to put the steam.exe in that folder as well, as I've installed GTA 3 on my external hdd. Will give it a try later today :)
