THE KRAKEN DOES NOT SPAWN RANDOMLY!
I keep hearing that the Kraken spawns at random, but it doesn't.

When sailing, if you look carefully, you'll see water bubbling just like when you see fish. But you won't see fish.

If you see bubbling water, but no fish, it's a Kraken.

True. It's hard to spot on a rather small notebook screen, though. Play it on a 13'', and it can easily be mixed up with normal fish

it CAN be random, i just sunk an enemy ship, about to sit ontop of their ship to collect loot, suddenly kraken arm pops up, whats worse, my kraken is bugged so everytime it appears my game crashes.

I thought everyone knew that

Not really. I've watched and read a few reviews and people trash the game for the 'random Kraken attacks.

I've seen Kraken spawn on the map when sailing around. It's not random.

Yeah. Sometimes I have to pay close attention to see if any fish will jump up out of the water.

i have seen it as well, however i am saying, in my case it has popped up almost immediately after i finish combat, in my case resulting in an unsaved crash, for others it might result in death or damaged ship, in anycase, the situation would be looked at as if its a random spawn due to the timing of the refresh of the kraken arm spawns. i wish i can post a photo on here, i took a screenshot of when i had just finished combat with 3 ships and whittled them down, the kraken arm spawn, spawning on me and causing me to crash in my instance, for others it might simply mean taking damage. again i dont think the spawns are technically random as you said, there are those little bubbles before they spawn, however my experience with them have been when the "bubbles" refresh after combat and im sitting ontop of it, causing a random appearance like experience

Yeah, yeah, I know what you mean. I've had that happen to me without the unsaved crash.

So, you admit that the kraken can be a bit random LOL
I love this game, having a lot of fun, but I agree in that having the kraken indication be no where on screen and then suddenly appear when you're trying to finish combat or loot can add a frustration to the mix. It's not game-breaking though, at least in my opinion

What I mean is that theirs always going to be that pool of water bubbling on the surface. The bubbling water may just sometimes spawn at random under your ship. The Kraken spawning on the map is random, but it doesn't just attack your ship at random. You have to watch out for the bubbling water. I hope this helps.

I've given up on the game. I reached level 30 and I feel I've seen all there is to the game. I find that there's a lack of interesting or unique loot. What I've noticed is that it's all the same but different rarity types. Bigger ships don't seem to make a difference because they don't deal damage based on how many canons you have. The map design is boring because it's based on an invisible grid pattern. The ports get boring because they all look the same and don't have any memorable features. The characters are repetitive. The story seems to be one fetch quest to another to progress. The game feels like a mobile game. I'm happy to see a roadmap for this game because this isn't a bad game, it just lacks the interesting quality of life features.

I like the ship combat and getting new loot, but after a while, I wasn't finding anything interesting. It became repetitive.
Joe May 28, 2021 @ 8:17am
Absolutely, you make a lot of fair points. Honestly, I enjoy repetition to a certain extent if it is done properly, and I actually find myself enjoying sailing from port to port. However, trading is utterly pointless because you barely profit, if at all, so that feature is almost entirely pointless. The loot is very similar, so I totally get you on that end too.

I do disagree on the mobile game comment though. If you're playing mobile games like this, they must be pretty awesome. I haven't played games on mobile in years, so I can't say how mobile games are these days, but from my experience I don't really see this as a mobile game... more like an indie game with a lot of room for improvement and additional features/functions.

With there being so few games that have gameplay similar to this, I am happy with what I've experienced thus far, and look forward to diving back in for more. I am also one of those sick individuals that likes achievements, so I do enjoy aiming for those during gameplay as well.

If the bubbling water has no jumping fish then its a Kraken. There are special ability to spawn a kraken at your enemy ship so I am also assuming that the enemy can also have this ability. I have seen them drop explosive barrels many times.
Joe May 28, 2021 @ 4:13pm
Ah, you know what, that's a really good call... Probably the enemy having the ability and using it explains the seemingly sudden appearances during combat.

Good call!
Nox Interna May 28, 2021 @ 6:37pm
its literally an ability you can use in combat, therefor enemies use it also, especially ghost ships
Shadow [PMA] May 29, 2021 @ 4:43am
Update to this: the kraken can randomly spawn.
when the game decides to place things on the sea, like loot, barrels, krakens, it doesn't care where the player is and i've seen it happen at least 4 times where a kraken is then spawned next to me.
in this case, the thing attacks instantly before the splashing visual effect can even render.
i think this is what gets some people and why the confusion.

sadly i'm not a streamer/tuber so i don't have a recording setup to capture these events.
