R: "Well, Vina? Are you enjoying your dinner?"
V: "I can't bear it anymore. Father, did you do it?"
R: "What is it you that you think I did?"
V: "You never liked Manus. It was all a ruse. You scared him off."
R: "Sweetheart... I know you're sad. But that's no reason to take it out on me."
V: "Don't bloody patronise! I know what you are!"
R: "I know how much Manus meant to you. I would never do anything to hurt him."
V: "Sure."
R: "Speaking of falling in love again... how open are you to the possibility of another suitor?"
V: "Who?"
R: "Duke Axel Reinhart."
Y: "I saw the way you looked at him at the gas deal signing. You like him."
V: "But I am not in love with him."
R: "You will grow to love him over time. It happened with me and your mother."
V: "I have been privy to your conversations about them. Will our marriage be enough to resolve centuries of tension?"
Y: "It's not as simple as that. Marriage is only the first step in a long process of negotiation and reconciliation."
V: "A marital alliance with another monarchy feels like a step backwards to me."
R: "I know it seems that way. But I assure you this partnership will benefit everyone in Rizia. Not only nobles."
V: "If I marry Reinhart, I intend to hold you to that promise."
E: "Sooner or later, you've got to put your personal aspirations aside and do your womanly duty on behalf of the kingdom."
R: "No, Mother. That's not going to be Vina's life. My daughter is free to choose her own future."
V: "Then I would rather not wed at all. Thank you for understanding."
This *used* to work.
How were you treating before the Pales deal? Did you let her be on your council, and tell her that you won't force her to marry anyone? I think the council bit itself might not be so important, but being open to her romantic pursuits is.
This might be it - I did have her on the council, but very much shut down her relationship with Manus. Didn't let her dance with him, refused my blessing to their relationship. This didn't used to impact the Axel marriage deal.
Then just feign ignorance and she'll go for it.
Axel used to be easier to persuade in taking your family name but that is no longer on the table.
Although, what's interesting is in my run, Axel was fine with taking the name!
I spend the playthrough setting up an enlightened absolute monarchy at the head of a powerful alliance only for my daughter to want to run off with Manus and turn us into a Constitutional Monarchy. It speaks volumes that Vina actually becomes a Malenyvist if kept off The Council!
I dunno, how one could have trouble there. Unless you are a normie yourself and actually supported her idea of self-determination and free love. I mean, cool, but this is monarchy in 1950's, get a reality check. Or if you are some kind of sadist, or RPing as bad father, and you've been vocal to her about contemplating of forcing her to marry Rico, then yeah, she will abandon the idea for good as well. Might even run away from home.
I also like to execute Manus while making everyone watch at the end, just to be sure.
When you go to Iza after Manus leaves, if you tell her "why don't you put a makeup or something" it is over, you will lose option to mention marriage in the family dinner. If you are nice to her in Iza conversation (pick middle dialogue option) and have done right things before, the choice will be available and she will be more cooperative.
Definitely. We've solved this now - tl:dr let her do what she wants prior to the dinner convo. and tell her you'll never force her into anything etc. Force Manus to leave when given the option, and follow the old dialogue path that's essentially convincing her the marriage is what's best for Rizia.
