How to persuade the strikers outside the energy company?
I chose something nice to say, but the strikers didn't agree. Is there some kind of special technique to it, like talking to a judge?

Not possible afaik

it is possible, but you need to be very selective of your choices. I don't recall exactly what I said but in general, you can't seem apathetic, you gotta agree that workers conditions are deplorable (as well that you will sign the bill when it comes to you), you have to state that education and healthcare are getting funded, and, if you told Ewald in the scene prior to either raise wages or construct better conditions for workers, tell them about that too. Only then they and the MPs will be appeased from what I've seen

I was able to deescalate the strikers by being amicable enough with Gasom to invest (I did the big investment, it might work with a small one but I haven't tested it), convinced Gasom to increase the worker's wages, then told the strikers that I was investing in the workers and increases wages.

Big inversement in Gasom and getting Ewald to raise wages seemed to do the trick without having to promise anything

The best thing to do is for the protesters to calm down and let the president go? News in the aftermath praised the president for his dialogue, but it appears the protesters' pay demands failed anyway.

Yup, I went in demanding Ewald raise wages, then left and could tell the strikers that Ewald was raising wages.

Everybody happy.

I asked him to raise the wages of the workers, but the news afterwards seemed that the workers' demands for higher wages were unsuccessful.

You can persuade the protesters, the Communist and Labour Union Leaders, get the crowd to applaud and avert an attack of the left-wing terrorists.

Out of pure curiosity, I've reloaded several times and tried different answer-combos, beacuse I wanted to know if it is possible to get a positive ending in that sequence.

Of course your prior decisions do matter and are taken into account: I didn't go to the shot communist's funeral (I had a different reasoning behind my decision, than the game would allow me to have).
Also I opted for the business bail-outs instead the handout for the poor. Both decisions the commie leader reproached me for.

I went down the "invest in Narbel community"-Path in the conversation with Alphonso.
You can also choose the other path, i.e. "Increase workers wages".
You have to press him hard on that promise, don't be too vague or abstract.

I think one prerequisite is that you fully invest in Gasom (= -2 Budget) and not together with Rizia. You will be criticised for that by Sordaland Today, just like you will be if you do anything else.

When Serge implores you to leave: leave! Here you can exchange some friendlier words with the two leaders and shake hands.

The game tells you when you are "successful" with your conversation. Right after the accusations by the commie leader the crowd should get calmer.

I think that was the "best possible" outcome, if we don't look too much at the budget, since it placated the commies and unions.

Give wage increase - it usually works the best and the most easiest. You could easily convince them in dialogue. Especially if you are left wing. You can do it also with local community investments - but harder. But you need invest in Gazom and force Ewald to take social direction

I did joint investment with Rizia and demanded they raise blue collar wages. This placated the workers, but the communists attempted to start a small brawl regardless.

I went there and didn't get a deal (Alphonso wouldn't increase worker wages so I reloaded - i assume because I didn't campaign for him, only advised him to step down). Is it still better to engage the protestors or should you helicopter out? I'm doing a planned economy/democratic reforms run, but it seems like the protestors will always attack you in that scenario?

You need Alfonso to like you enough to agree to increase the workers salary (You need to support him and avise him to step down at the start of the game) After that, talk to the worker about concrete actions.
