Spoilers: Coup ending

I just want to say I saw the coup coming from a mile away, but the game didn't let me do anything to stop it. Near the end I was wanting for the moment when I could purge my military officers, but it never let me even try.

I did increase the military budget.
Since I'm playing as pro democracy that isn't really an option, but I still think I could get the police to protect me from the military since they liked me, Instead I had to sit there while plotted against me letting me do nothing but lose or run. Why couldn't I give speech saying the military is going to overthrow me and call on the people to protect me. I also allied with Acadia why couldn't I go to them for help.

Welp I just lost to a coup as well :) So... what steps do you need to take to avoid that ending?

I funded the police and get ant corruption police, and leslie graf was caught in the end. Tho i Don't if that's the reason the military is still loyal. I do raise the military budget too but i transferred gendarmerie to the interior

I want to be able to fight back. I thought the pres was head of the army why can't I fire my generals. I suspected the military after the assassination attempt (which I also saw coming right when an unmarked truck was parked in the wrong place with Soil looking so happy.) If I die trying it's fine, but I should at least have a way to beat the military once they decide to coup. LIke needing a well funded spies or being a popular leader.

I also got this stupid ending and i am so dissapointed now i don't even feel like replaying the game

Yeah I got the coup on my first playthrough as well:

I maintained the military budget
Entered ATO (which basically modernised the army for free)
I chose the diplomatic response when Rumburg shot down our airplane
I transfered the gendarmerie to the ministry of interior
I tacitly supproted the genocide nextdoors by locking down the border and tightened migration rules in general
I survived assassination attempt during the military parade
I solved the recesion

Dunno, I would appriciate to have some options to defend against the coup, it seemed to me that the army didnt have that many reasons to be pissed off - oh well...

Yea, it's a pretty weak story line, that as president I am unable to plot my own downfall of disloyal generals or Sol. Why can't I plot his death or the death of key figures blocking me? I just have to constantly react to events instead of being proactive. I get it's hard to code so many different options and have it all come out making sense but come on. Add in some proactive options.

Can't say I didn't know something was up when I was prompted to move my cash to not-swiss bank and warned by dievid, and asked by my wife to retire. but I thought that the Secret Police would have protected me. plus I gave the paramilitary police to graf. both should have put up a bit of a fuss on my behalf. at least I was eventually released...as an old, broken man.

I've had 15 restarts just to avoid Black Tuesday alone.

I failed most assembly votes, so I finally had to ally with the fascist party at the expense of losing my justice minister, just to get it passed the assembly.

just to top it all off I lost the centrist justices because I proposed every president gets a member of honour membership, which I only chose to have it as a bargaining chip to give away in trade for support, to which the main centrist justice DIDN'T give me the option to get rid of it!!! What? everyone want to horsetrade except her?

btw I never saw an option to purge the military. I had the default decree powers, I saw the power grab reforms too, I dont remember seeing an option for improved decree powers.

Does max decree powers require going along with the old guard justices when they come to you with false evidence against Richter?

I just lost the game to a coup to this fat bald bastard as well. And I sided with the Military on almost every issue except for when they wanted to plunge into war.

The only thing I ever did that could have been percieved as "betraying" the nation was Joining ATO to prevent a war with Rumberg.

I'm really pissed off. I pulled the country out of recession, had an almost balanced budget, successful reform, won party leadership and was looking forward to the re-election

Same here, had almost a perfect run, saved economy, promoted democracy, human rights, women movement, won on everything, assembly, justice court, keeping leader position against opposition, was about to go into re-election and fkn bang slap in the face, mr bald man kidnapped me, none of my allies came to save me, even after the coup was over 2 years later, it still took like another 15-20 until I was allowed out, wtf? where are all my allies and people? do none of my choices matter just because 1 bald maniac goes crazy? you'd expect people to riot and try to assassinate him for it and break you out of prison as fast as possible, but no, you rot until old age.

I'm not entirely sure, but I can give you my experience in the 2 runs I had.

1st run my budget never went below -4 (or -3) and the economy at its lowest was 2 bars. The Black Tuesday crash didn't happen in this run,

2nd run I just pretty much spend budget whenever I could (-8) and the economy got at 1 bar. In this run I had the Black Tuesday crash happen.

I didn’t get it when I went to -2 but I did at -5.

I will try to go -3/4 next time and guess where the threshold is. 👍

Im starting to believe the reason some people are getting ousted in a coup is because Ioseph is a hardline Sollist. and as a reformist. Simply changing things for what you think is progressive or better, is seen as Treason

what pisses me off so much about it is you are not even told WHY. You are guilty of Treason. OK... what did I do that is Treason? Joining ATO? Refusing to go to war with the Rums? changing the constitution in a way that makes my office LESS powerful?

I was really happy with this game until I recieved a sudden and non-explanative game over. I would have been happier getting assassinated... at least I would know what happened and probably why.

(I was especially pissed because I just defeated Graf in the USP Leadership election. I had a fully maxed out Economy bar, and my budget was only at -1 (Recentley took a loan to get +2). But all in all it looked like I had suddenley pulled a rabbit out of my ass and saved the economy after midway through it looked like I was gonna bomb it all...
