Hello,

If you have created shape keys for your model, when your model is imported into VUP, all the shape keys of the model will be synchronized to VUP along with the model.

VUP uses shape keys in two places.

1. Custom emojis

Character -> Emoji -> Click the button [Add expression]

Then, you will see all the shape keys of your model, modify the parameters of each shape key, and you can see the expression changes in the display window.

Combine the shape keys according to your preference, and you can customize an emoji.

Below is a tutorial on customizing emojis

2. Expression channels mapping for facial capture, sound capture, and auto wink

Before using facial capture, sound capture, and auto wink, please check whether their expression channels have been mapped.

Hover the mouse on the model card and click the icon "smiley" on the left side of the card to enter the expression channel mapping interface.
Slide the mouse wheel to pull down, you can see four expression channel mapping modules, namely: auto wink channel, auto look camera channel, facial capture channel, and sound capture channel.

You'll use the face tracking, but before that, you need to check whether the expression channels under the facial capture are mapped to the corresponding options.

For example, in the facial capture channel, the corresponding option of channel "right eye closed" is "Null", and the corresponding option of channel "left eye closed" is "close left eye".
Then, you save the expression mapping. Finally, when you use facial capture, you close your right eye, the avatar will not close the right eye (because the corresponding option for closing the right eye is "Null"), you close your left eye, and the avatar will close the left eye ( Because the option for closing the left eye is "close left eye").

Of course, if you make a wrong mapping, then the facial capture will also go wrong.
For example: for the channel "closed right eye", you set the option to "open mouth_a".
Well, during face tracking, you close your right eye, but the avatar will make an expression of "open mouth_a".

VUP provides more facial capture channels.
But not all channels need to be mapped. You only need to map what you need, or what you must use (such as closing your eyes and opening your mouth).

The options for these channels are all the shape keys you make.
If the channel you can't find a suitable matching option, it means that you have not made the shape key corresponding to this channel. If you need to map this channel, it is recommended to make the corresponding shape key.
Note: Click the eye icon on the right side of the channel to view the expression of the official model on the left in the display window. This expression is the expression reference of this channel, that is to say, it’s the expression effect of the option matching this channel.

Regarding expression channel mapping, please check the tutorial below (starting at 0:30)
