Joystick Support ??
Does anyone know if Legends , or Untamed , or Reflex , or ANY of the newer (after Unleashed) MX vs ATV games supports a Joystick ??? , I know for a fact Unleashed does , as I have it and have played it with a joystick since it came out (Motocross Madness 1 and 2 also supports a Joystick) , but I was wanting a newer MX/SX game , but I don't want to waste the money buying one if it doesn't support a Joystick , I hate Controllers in PC games , they should be left in Console ONLY , so what I am wanting to know is of ALL the MX vs ATV lineup , which ones support a Joystick besides Unleashed ..... Any help would be appreciated

Thanks ... Jim

Hey Jim,

We use the X input API and support X input gamepads (Xbox 360 and newer). X input wheels and joysticks may work, but are not the target device. Legends, All Out, Supercross Encore, and Reflex are X input only.

Don't know if you are still around , but you never really addressed my actual Question/Request , what I am talking about is a Microsoft Sidewinder Joystick FOR A PC not some X-Box crap , whatever you are describing is for X-Box or whatever console , and I DO NOT WANT TO USE A CONSOLE CONTROLLER OF ANY KIND PERIOD !!!

I WANT JOYSTICK SUPPORT LIKE MY POST SAYS

You should have said "We are working on it and will have it ready with the next patch in a week" THAT is the Reply I WAS EXPECTING ....

Why would you put X-Box controllers for a PC game ??? , that's dumb and LAZY , I play on a PC because I HATE CONSOLE GAMES , that's like Microsoft using APPS for my PC , they are NOT APPS , they are PROGRAMS , a APP is for a PHONE , just like a Controller is for a X-Box or PlayStation , neither of which I am playing on , nor do I want to play on , or simulate playing on ...... Did I mention I HATE CONSOLE GAMES for PC ????

I want PC ONLY supported Devices for a PC GAME , such as Keyboard and Mouse and Joystick , Not a Gamepad and whatever it is your talking about , I don't want a Emulator , I want Joystick Support for a PC game that uses a USB Joystick , so I can use MY JOYSTICK !!!!! , that works perfectly fine for MX vs ATV Unleashed , so there is absolutely NO REASON why you can't make a Joystick work on EVERY OTHER GAME YOU MAKE !!

You need to FIX this , because you are just being LAZY , I don't want a X-Box GAME on my PC ! , I WANT A PC GAME !!! so make it work like one , not like a X-Box game !!!

Otherwise I am stuck playing a OLD game because you guys are just LAZY , I won't be buying any of your games then , I guess , you lazied your way out of more Customers by not making a actual PC game that uses a Joystick , I don't want a X-Box Simulated PC game , that is STUPID and I'm not happy and I won't play or buy them

All you have to do is use the same code for Controller Support that you did on Unleashed , I can control the bikes 10,000 times better with a Joystick than any controller you can come up with , its completely STUPID to use a Controller for a PC game , PERIOD

jimdirt, we answered the question as best we were able with the information originally provided. Now that we know you are specifically talking about a Microsoft Sidewinder Joystick which was last manufactured in 2002, we have a clearer understanding.

It is not very likely that the aforementioned games will support your device without an intermediate application to convert the joystick inputs into XInput.

And just so there is not any misunderstanding about what XInput is and why the Xbox 360 controller was mentioned specifically, here is a link to the DirectInput article on Wikipedia which gives a short overview of the input APIs.

You didn't answer the actual question , and its not about the Microsoft Sidewinder specifically , it was just a "example" , .... Let me explain it so you can understand , my Questions is .... Are YOU GOING TO MAKE ALL THE MX vs ATV Games SUPPORT A JOYSTICK ????? ........ Yes/No ..... If Yes then WHEN ?? , if not then WHY ??? , and it doesn't matter what brand specifically , a Joystick functions the SAME for ALL BRANDS , its X/Y Axis , etc. , ALL YOU need to do is ADD the ABILITY to SUPPORT JOYSTICKS , PERIOD

Just take what is in Unleashed and Copy/Paste or whatever the Coders need to do to ADD THEM to ALL your MX vs ATV games (a simple patch through Steam , or standalone , its that simple , add it along with the game supporting a Controller if you feel the desperate need to add a Controller when it should be Secondary to a Joystick , because ITS A PC GAME NOT A CONSOLE GAME .... Follow ??? Here is what ALL your PC games should support .... 1) Keyboard , 2) Mouse , 3) Joystick ......................(Option) Controller .... In that order ... PC is NOT Console , just like a PC is NOT A PHONE , it should be set up accordingly

I get emails on my PC , NOT my Phone , I take pictures with my Camera , and Videos with my GoPro , and I play games on my PC , I have a PlayStation and PS2 , but I haven't touched them more than a few times in years , because I prefer playing on a PC , they are separate entities and should be treated as such

All that stuff you directed me to in the Link is only about Controllers and making them work on a Windows PC ...... Guess what , a Joystick only requires a USB Port and NOTHING ELSE , it doesn't need to emulate anything , All you are doing with the lack of Joystick Support is taking away the way the game SHOULD BE PLAYED and adding complex crap that does nothing but make playing the game miserable for anyone that has used a Joystick and KNOWS how much superior it is to a Controller .... PERIOD ...

That and I refuse to buy ANY other MX vs ATV games until the support for a Joystick that SHOULD have been there in the first place just like it is in Unleased , I could care less if the game is 1 year old or 20 years old , if it plays good it plays good , and so far it looks like Unleashed is 10 times the games after it , because Joystick Support was dropped for NO Logical REASON in every game after it , I played Motocross Madness (1 and 2 and still have and play them both) and Unleashed , but I stopped buying the rest of the series because of the lack of Joystick Support , the same goes for all the Supercross games out there , until they support a Joystick , I won't buy any of them , and I won' buy a X-Box , because I have no interest in Console games anymore

You want Controller support for the Console version ... Fine I completely understand why , I could care less because I don't play it ... and I have the MX vs ATV game for PS2 , but I refuse to play it because using a controller to play it 100% SUCKS , I just hate using a controller because ALL motorcycle games (on PC) should be Joystick compatible ... it is 1,000% easier to control the bikes using a Joystick rather than a Controller on a PC and it feels "natural" to use one as opposed to a Controller that you would use sitting on the couch with the PlayStation or whatever .....

I am playing on a PC , you know , Keyboard , Mouse , Joystick , that is what you use for a PC Game .... IF you are not going to add Joystick support , you are eliminating literally thousands of sales of your game series , because lots of people (some of them I know) will not buy the games because they don't have Joystick Support (self included)

I really want to play these games , but as long as I can't use a Joystick it is 100% a waste of money for me , I won't be purchasing any of them , you could release the most realistic MX game in the world tomorrow , and if it doesn't have Joystick Support (A PC game not Console game) , then I won't buy it , even if it was on sale for a Dollar

I guess I should change this from a Question , to a REQUEST , I am REQUESTING that you make a Patch to add Joystick Support , exactly the same as Unleashed ..... Thanks , and hopefully you take the minimal time it would take to implement this for those of us missing out on all the newer games because they are incomplete and need Joystick Support to make them fully functional , it doesn't matter when they were made , they should have stayed the same as Unleashed as far as support goes , it was the MAIN reason I got the game was because I could use a Joystick like I could in Motocross Madness (1 and 2)
Good luck getting your case through acting like a toddler. If you are 5 I can understand but you aren't, are you?

jimdirt, we're sorry you've found the answers to your inquiry unsatisfactory. So I'll do my best to answer as directly as possible the questions here.

We do not have plans to add support for any/all Joysticks ever made. It is possible that the game already supports some joysticks, specifically those which utilize XInput.

The primary reason we will not be able to add support for every joystick is that it's an insurmountable task. Some devices use older APIs which are no longer supported/compatible. Many devices have special brand/product specific APIs which would need to be integrated to function fully. When we were developing the Monster Jam Steel Titans games, we added support for many of the most popular steering wheel controllers and continued to do so while the games were being supported; this was a major undertaking. We were willing to do it because it fit the gameplay vision and was a real desire we anticipated in the player-base. We cannot say the same for recent MX vs ATV games and the desire for Joystick use.

Apologies if this is a deal-breaker for you. We can see that this is a topic you are passionate about. Please take care.

You don't need to make support for "specific" joysticks , just a simple Joystick Support , where it allows you to map X/Y axis , and several buttons (lets say 7 buttons for example) , so you can program movements or "tricks" , basically whatever MX vs ATV Unleashed supports is sufficient , In other words , whatever Joystick Support MX vs ATV Unleashed has , should work for the majority of joysticks ,

Is there any reason why you can't just take the settings/code from MX vs ATV Unleashed and put that in the other MX vs ATV game series ??? (in a simple Patch) , or can I do that ?? , like can you tell me what files I need to take from Unleashed that pertain to the Joystick Function and put them in Untamed , or All Out or whatever other game that was released since Unleashed and add that to the newer games ???

I do not believe I am asking too much , I would guess the code that works for Unleashed will work for ALL the rest of the games , it just needs to be added to the game in a simple patch/download , as I am willing to bet that there are far more people like me than you think , that actually want Joystick Support , if I wanted to use a console controller I would play the game on a Console , follow ??? , I play on PC , therefor it should be completely separate than a Console controls , if YOU want to add Controller support for the 12 year olds that only play console and are too lazy to learn how to use a Joystick instead of a controller , that by all means cater to them and leave the rest of us hanging ... A PC game should be a PC game , and a Console game should be a Console game , period , but ANY PC game SHOULD have Joystick Support , Period , however I don't feel most would pursue it like I have , I will bet thousands of people just looked at the game specs , found out it doesn't show a Joystick , and moved on , instead of inquiring so you would implement it

I'm not trying to be a jerk , I just would like to play the other games you offer , which means more sales for you , but I guess that is not important to you ??? , and I would buy and play them if a Joystick was supported , as I mentioned , just use what is currently in Unleashed , if it works , great , if it doesn't I will let you know ... is it really that much effort to add it , that you are not even willing to try ??? ... I have over 50 games on my PC (all first person shooters , except for Motocross Madness and MX vs ATV Unleashed) , I only have those 2 because the rest of the games in the series don't show Joystick Support , otherwise I would have purchased them ALL , so I won't buy them or play them without the support , and its a loss for me and you .... Thanks ... Jim

..... How about some people just want to play a Personal Computer GAME the way it SHOULD BE PLAYED , did you ever think of that ??? , have you ever tried playing it with a Joystick ?? , instead of everything being the same , how about some people like Diversity

I have a X-Box Controller for my PC , and I hate using it because its for Console games NOT PC games , what part of that did you not comprehend ?? , I WANT TO USE A JOYSTICK !! , how about I don't want my PC to be like my phone or my PlayStation 1 or 2 , my PC doesn't have Apps , it has Programs , because its not a phone , I use a Joystick because its not a Console Player its a PC !! , follow ??? , why make a PC game then ?? , if your going to make it just like a X-Box or PlayStation game ??? ... What's the point ????? , what is the point of making a game for a PC if your not going to actually make it specifically for a PC ???? , if I wanted to play my PC games like a X-Box , I would have bought a X-Box , how hard is that to comprehend ???

It seems lots of people are too lazy , and want everything the same so they don't have to make a effort to switch from one thing to the other because they are lazy ... do you ride a motorcycle the same way you drive a car ??? , NO because a car has 4 wheels and handles completely different , its the same for a PC and a X-Box or PlayStation , they are DIFFERENT , it's really that simple , they are different and the games should be different as well , the companies that make games need to STOP BEING LAZY and do what you are PAYING THEM for , I PAID for a PC Game , not a Console Game

I don't want my PC to be like my Phone , or my PlayStation 1 or 2 , I don't have newer PlayStation's than 1 and 2 because I don't like playing certain games with a controller , and I much prefer playing on my PC , and the game play sucks specifically because of the controller so I haven't played my PlayStation's in about 4-5 years , and I don't even own a X-Box , though I do have a X-Box controller for my PC to play some parts in Call of Duty WW2 because it requires it and I couldn't complete the Campaign otherwise , but I haven't used it since completing that part of the Campaign , I use the Keyboard and Mouse like you should playing a First Person Shooter , and I use a Joystick to play MX vs ATV Unleashed because that is how it was meant to be played when you play it

Maybe EVERYONE should all drive the same model and make car , so all the lazy people that can't drive a stick shift , or figure out how to use mirrors to back up a truck can get by in life with little to no effort ??? , how about that ??? , and while were at it , I guess everyone should wear the same clothes as everyone else because ... well because .... see how stupid that sounds ?? , its the same for using a Console Controller in a PC game ... , or better yet how about the people that make the games do their JOB and make it for a PC , and another separate game for a Console , but I guess you never thought about that huh ??

Not making any MX vs ATV PC game after Unleashed without joystick support is just being lazy , if I wanted to play it on either of those other platforms , I would have bought the game for them ...... Oh wait ..... I did .... , and it SUCKS 100% because of the Controller , I want to play it on a PC with a Joystick , that is why I bought the game in PC format , just so I could use what my PC uses , a Joystick , not a controller , if you don't understand why , then you shouldn't have added your "opinion" , because its obvious you have never played it with a Joystick and have no clue why I like it or lots of other people who feel the same way about it , because I have seen plenty of posts with my same complaint on Steam about this very issue , so I'm adding mine , but because the lazy manufacturer doesn't want to take the time to do what they SHOULD HAVE DONE IN THE FIRST PLACE , and KEPT the Joystick support like the first few games had , nothing more , nothing less , then I am going to keep harping on them to do their job , and that is why I am complaining and telling them to do their job , like they SHOULD have in the first place ,

I guess your user name sure does fit with that crappy attitude you seem to have .. no wonder most kids today are about useless , they feel entitled to everything without actually learning or doing anything to get the entitlement they think they have , or think they are owed , and they think they have all the answers when in fact they don't have a clue .... ...... .... , how about if you have nothing positive to add to the conversation , and are not here to HELP the cause , you just don't reply ?? ...... , I wasn't asking for your opinion , or anyone else's on the subject , I was specifically trying to get the lazy company that owns the game to do their job and finish/update the games for the PC platform , with the same support for a Joystick that was in the first game , like they SHOULD HAVE in the first place !

It is not very likely that the aforementioned games will support your device without an intermediate application to convert the joystick inputs into XInput.

And just so there is not any misunderstanding about what XInput is and why the Xbox 360 controller was mentioned specifically, here is a link to the DirectInput article on Wikipedia which gives a short overview of the input APIs.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DirectInput

OK , I tried the Emulators like you mentioned , and they SUCK , I downloaded MXGP 2021 and MXGP3 (because they were on sale and I did not want to waste $30+ each if it wasn't going to work) , so I set them up and only 1 game (MXGP 2021) would work with the Xinput , and I had to search and try about 6 different Emulators before I found any that would even work at all , then I found the WoJ XInput Emulator and it worked for the other game (MXGP3)

So back to my Question/Request ... When are you going to implement Joystick Support for ALL your MX vs ATV games ??? , because its a pain in the ass to have to find a different emulator for every game , as it seems the majority of them don't work at all , and of the 2 that I was able to get recognize a Joystick in their setting (actually a controller but the Emulator allowed me to map "some" keys to my Joystick) , I was only able to map the simplest of input , basically I got a Clutch , steering , a front and rear brake and a throttle , I can't do any tricks/whips etc. or anything other than basic riding movements , and I can't even fully do that , so again , unless one of your games is on sale for $3.99 , I won't be buying them due to the lack of Support you provide ... a Joystick should be a Basic Function for a PC game , a Controller should be way down the list , if the game is Console .. Fine , but PC should be Joystick PERIOD

Now before you go and say , "We can't make it work for EVERY JOYSTICK" , ..... You Don't Have To , you just have to put in the same settings/script that Unleashed has and it will most likely work with ANY Joystick , how do I know , because besides having also owned the Microsoft Sidewinder 2 Joystick (I'm on my 5th one because I literally wore them out and I like how comfortable they feel , so I have mainly used them for years) , I also had a Logitec Extreme Pro , and it worked fine for Unleashed (but it wore out much quicker than the Microsoft one) , and my friend had a no name knockoff of the Logitec and it worked fine as well (he also used it for Microsoft Flight Simulator , the original one) , so the "excuse" that you need to spend weeks upon weeks programming , is BS , just use the code you already have with Unleashed and add it to the newer games in a simple patch/update , you may have to tweak it , or you might not , I don't know , but it would be minimal effort and expense to try it , but I am betting it will work just fine just as it is in Unleashed for all your other games with minimal effort and basically minimal cost
Just my 2cents, I used to play MCM & MCM2 with a joystick. it was a great time to be around the pc mx gaming community. Times are different now and developers have to focus on what the majority of people will do, then see what other features they can feasibly add either to this game or future games.

I would love to see a return to joysticks, but now you would really need 2 joysticks since modern mx games are designed to use both controller thumbsticks. Sure the input could be combined just like on single stick but that's not going to give the same experience. And honestly if we're going that far then it's about time someone just made a real MX "bar" controller for public sale.

Your entire reply reeks of the entitlement you are complaining about by the way, i do like the idea of an mx bar by that other user though. I can understand your point about not wanting your pc to feel like your other consoles/devices but at no point did i really say anything mean or with a "crappy" attitude or at least i disagree. This is a public forum you have made a post on so expect replies from others positive or not respectively. ive read every single reply you have made to the dev that was kindly trying to give the time to repond to you and YOU have been everything but respectful in every reply to them and i would go as far to say that your attitude is far worse. Try better.
