If your game crashes and freezes your computer..
It is most likely the drive where the game is installed on.
Bear with me, this one is weird.

I have installed the game on a fairly new, mostly unused NVMe M2 SSD.

When starting the game, preprocessing would take forever. Sometimes it would crash during this time, and other times it would let me through to the main menu.
Once I loaded a world (which would also take forever and sometimes crash or freeze my computer in the process), I would get in game, where everything would seem fine until after a minute or so, it would freeze and or crash again, sometimes freezing the entire computer and forcing me to do a hard restart.

I tried everything from freeing all the RAM, to uninstalling all graphics drivers with DDU twice -- nothing worked.

Eventually, after trying basically everything, I moved the game files from my fast SSD that I reserve for gaming to my external SSD drive that I connect through USB and bam! Everything loads instantaneously and there are no more crashes or freezes.

I am certain that my drive and other components are not faulty as my machine is fairly new and I even stress tested my RAM and SSD but everything is in the deep greens.
Not only that but this issue doesn't happen with other games -- this is the only game and or program where this happens.

This is most likely some kind of driver issue if I had to guess but since I don't have access to profiling for this game, it's all guesswork.

Either way, if you're like me and have experienced similar issues, try moving the game to a different drive (if you can).

Did you manage to solve the issue entirely? I'm using a Lenovo laptop and people have reported this problem with M-Audio drivers, which i don't think i even have. Still keeps doing this once every few hours. It doesn't crash the PC entirely, but game process becomes unresponsive and can't be closed in any way, and the only possible option is power restart. I'm using a secondary SSD inside the laptop for game files, and just moved them over to primary for testing this.

For me, once I moved the game from my internal SSD to my external SSD the issue went away completely.

Whether that was the root of the issue or a side-effect of it, I am not sure sadly.

Well hell, I struggled with this problem for 3 weeks. I moved the game to my other drive and sure enough everything works perfectly. What a weird issue. It would take forever to load then crash the whole computer half the time and never really work correctly. Now it loads super fast and works perfectly.

Right? I have no idea what could possibly cause this.

Quick question -- did you have the game installed previously on a different drive? Maybe it's an issue with that? Literally picking at straws here though.

Devs... are you there?

I have all of my steam games on a faster SSD drive that I added to my laptop (internal). All of the games work perfect on that drive except this one. When I moved the game to the laptops main C drive, also an SSD, everything worked perfectly.

Wild.

I was having this issue. I have all of my game on a secondary internal nVME drive. They all work flawlessly.

This one crashed.

Moved to my OS(C:) drive and NOW it works.

...why?

Absolutely no clue.
I am certain that this is not our drive's fault. Mine is brand new and works flawlessly on everything else.

I wonder what's in common with our SSDs that makes this game unhappy

Can confirm this works. Since my last post, i've not experienced the problem one single time.

Also this.

For information, the problem drive in my case is a Kingston skc3000d2048g.

For some reason it started happening again. Roughly once per day. After moving the files it run for 2 weeks without problems, and now i'm back where i started. Disappointing.

That's really odd.. I'm sorry to hear it isn't working again.
