Can't pet the cat

For whatever reason, I hit the key to pet the cat and the key action is ignored. Cat finishes the bait and then strolls away.

It did work at first. I was a bit frustrated with losing my 1 heart progress and customized my default world settings to keep progress when the tame was spooked. That's when the key stopped working. Reverting the tame progress key to default (lose some progress) didn't fix it. I started a new seed with the minimal world setting that has tame progress defaulted to keep progress and that had the same issue. Just cleared Thornhold and unfortunately the dog has the same issue. I'll revert keys to default and give it a try. Thanks.

Un-install and re-install did not fix the issue. Using the key will not extend the hand to pet the cat. Unfortunate. I was looking forward to animal taming.

That's a weird bug you got there. Does it happen only with the cat, but you're able to tame other animals? In that case you can try to get the cat on another world or on a public server. You can pick it up everywhere and bring it home.

I'd suggest trying another of the cats in the game but if the dog doesn't work either, then that's probably too much of a long-shot. That's a nasty bug. So you've gone back to default, which is 'e' right? And if it is working for everything else except petting, yikes. Of course you've tried moving even closer before hitting the key again, so I'm lost then.

The only other thing I can think of is to try to figure out whether it's character or server/world based. Try logging onto another server as @Silent Warrior suggests and see if the command even works there. Then try another character on your home world (if you have one at least) to see if it's that.

I even tried a fresh character in a fresh seed with all default settings. Same bug. I reported it on their support site and hopefully they can re-create the steps. I haven't tried the other critters, only the cat and dog. Checked game file integrity. No issues. Just the bug. No idea.

Just gone into the mountains and I really wish I could tame a yak. I personally don't like killing non-hostile critters in this game or any game but it looks like that will be forced since the fatty meat is another by-product I'll need in addition to the raw wool. I built my skill tree to the beastmaster line and prefer keeping all fauna peaceful if possible.

Found a work around. Since taming the yak was a gating event for obtaining the blast furnace, I decided to visit the Public Resource World and get a couple of yaks. I brought them into my game seed and that completed the mission and indeed unlocked the blacksmith mission for the bellows. Since the yak looked like it wanted to be petted, I gave it a try and indeed I could pet the yak. Maybe? I activated the animal farming quest and went out to tame a goat. I could now pet (and tame) the goat. I'm going to re-try the cat but I suspect that whatever was locking my arm to my side during the above described taming failures was unlocked by my friendly petting of the PRW yak. And I'm not giving the yak back ....

Tracked on their discord site with id #65929 and I can confirm that they have FIXED THIS ISSUE!!!!!!!! I just came back from the Quiet Caves with 2 yak using the normal taming process and followed up with a frizzy goat. THANK YOU DEVS!!!!!!!!
