What does ice armor (or fire armor) do?

It's crazy that it's on so many items and nobody on the internet knows what it does. Can we get an answer from a dev?

I'd suggest ice armor protects (to a degree) from ice attacks, fire armor protects (to a degree) frome fire attacks. No idea to what degree.
(It is said, devs don't check these forums, so probably there will be no response from devs side.)
