Preprocessing?
I have been stuck on this for like 10 minutes with a black screen that just continues to say preprocessing , it used to run just fine a few weeks ago now I am having this issue. Anyone know a fix?

Same here. I played earlier today and everything was fine. Now, it's stuck preprocessing.

EDIT: It took a VERY long time, but finally was able to get to the character selection screen.

I tried that and after an hour I just gave up I have been able to launch and play the game in the past without any issues, I have tried to play it on my ssd, reinstall, verify, everything to no help. The product to me is now unfortunately unplayable, and I have no idea why.

When I first bought the game it was doing that, super long preprocessing time. It was very frustrating, looked everywhere for a solution. Eventually, after maybe the fifth or sixth time I started the game, it just went away. Which seems weird.

I was pretty close to giving up on it, I mean who wants to wait 10 or 15 minutes to load each time?

Well I finally made it through the preprocessing once, and now it just sits loading on joining, left it for an hour still nothing, I cant refund it because I have had it since February, overall it is just disappointing that I for some reason am running into these issues. No matter what I try it just does not seem to work.

Move it to a SSD.

Already have it on the SSD.

I'm also having this problem even though I've never had it before the last update. Pre-processing seems to take about 5 minutes every time I launch the game and it always wants to re-compile the shaders, even if I let it finish the last time I played. Game is on a pretty decent m.2 SSD so that shouldn't be an issue (and wasn't before).

Same issue with me and my bud @Jakfox12 :steamsad:

Worst Preprocessing ever

Are people using Nvidia cards? I noticed after the most recent Geforce driver update tingy, a few games I play hang on the startup screens, or logo screens. Just a theory thats probably wrong but its 2024, so who knows!

Best Preprocessing ever.

Using Nvidia RTX 4080 and it takes like 1-3 seconds for preprocessing every tme i start the game here. Sometimes it's so fast i don't even see the message. Note i have shaders OFF in Steam. settings/downloads/enable shader pre-caching OFF. You may miss it in my video if you blink. Just rewind to 1st second of the vid.

Note was using Steam's recording ability. This requires the following launch options code to display RTSS overlay in Steam screenshots or recordings;

--keep-vulkan-layers

Now recompiling like after a game update or gpu driver update may take a bit comparatively. But we're talking well under 1 minute here.

Compiling shaders has never been an issue for me. I think Hogwarts took the longest last year at 4 minutes or maybe some other game. But i was using a 12 year old cpu a year ago. And while i had an nvme and modded bios to support it it was using a pci slot adaptor so was very slow. I do recall giving up after 4 minutes or so on 1 game. I hit alt/f4 and restarted it and it finished quickly. So people that have these compiling or preprocessing issues always seem very odd to me.

Thats so strange! I run a 4060 as well and its a solid 5 minute wait to load mine personally haha. Sometimes Computers are too complicated for me lol

Hm not sure what to tell you dude. Maybe try reinstalling your gpu driver. Perhaps use DDU to uninstall gpu drivers first. I also do NOT install or use geforce experience. And i don't use the new nvidia app. It's just under 9 seconds from hitting play on Steam to being able to choose my character.
