[Solved] Can't Connect to Dedicated Server
I'm hosting a dedicated server (not using a paid service) and not only is it not showing up in the server list, but my friends can't add it via Steam>View>Game Servers>Favorites>+

I've hosted many other dedicated servers in the past and I'm hosting some now, so I'm not new at this. I've done all the port forwarding and adjusted the .jsn file accordingly. If I put my actual IP in the .jsn file the server wont even launch. It auto closes after 1 second. If I leave it as 0.0.0.0 then it will launch like normal.

My own server doesn't show up for me unless I favorite in steam as well, using my local IP and port 15636. However, it does not show up for anyone else and their attempts to add it to steam game server favorites fails. (Yes they were putting in my actual external IP, and tried it with both ports).

Upon launching the server it does show my proper External IP. I'm using an Asus router and its port forwarding is very simple and straight forward. The Valheim and Palworld servers I'm currently hosting can be joined without issues.

Does anyone have any idea why this is not working?

It feels like everyone with dedicated servers has this problem at the moment.

I host one on an external vserver, so I can at least see it in my list, but there is always an error 4 when joining.

Nothing noticeable in the log? I had the symptom you describe when I started a dedicated server under Windows and Steam.

I never saw it in the favorites list.

Log looks clean. It shows exactly what the devs said it should to be working.

having same issues, i can connect 1x but it has to be on a new character every time, its unrealistic and needs a hotfix.

I got some assistance from the helpers on their discord and it was router related. I had both external ports in the forward rule along with 1 internal one. I needed to break them up so that each port had its own rule, like in the following image.

Note the two Enshrouded forwards listed at the bottom. Apparently for my router I didn't even need to list internal ports, but doing so didn't harm anything. I just couldn't pair two externals with 1 internal. I found this odd, because it works just fine that way for Palworld.

After doing this I was able to use the query tool and the server showed up

Did they mention any fixes for paid hosting servers?

Cool that it worked for you, can you connect now?
I still have the problem that I can't connect or that the session is canceled when I join. I see the intro video and then the connection breaks off.

[online] Session accepted with peer ( id xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx ).
[online] Added Peer #0.
[online] Session failed for peer #0 with error 4.
[online] Removed Peer #0.

the only error i find in the log is this:
[resource] Could not load resource cache file 'Z:/home/enshrouded/enshroudedserver/enshrouded_server.krc'. error=file not found

I got sort of the same problem.
I start a dedicated server, and it won't even show up in my favorites.
I tried on my ubuntu machine and my windows 11 machine.
Gameports are opend in both firewalls.
Gameports are opend seperatly in my router.
I can't even find the server that is running on the same machine as my steam installation.
I tried with internal and external ip adresses, and the ipv6 adress.
The ip adress in the .json file is set to 0.0.0.0, I never really understood this part to be honest.
I'll take all the help I can get :)

While I can't speak to solutions for anyone using a paid service, for those running it on their own machine, my issue was purely router setting related. I'm playing and running off the same machine, but I am logging on to my server from my public IP, not my local one. I do this so that if there is an interruption to connectivity that would affect my players, it affects me to, so I'm more aware.

0.0.0.0 for the IP in the .jsn file is correct. You can leave everything in the .jsn file at default except for server name and password.

The issue I ran into was having the ports forwarded as a range. I had 15636, 15637 external ports forwarded along with 15636 internal forwarded. Mixing 2 external with 1 internal in the same rule is what was causing the issue for me. So, I broke them up so that I had 15636 external and internal forwarded as a single rule and 15637 external and internal forwarded as a 2nd rule.

Players did still have to add my server to their steam favorites for them to see it in game. Steam>View>Game Servers>Favorites>+ ip:port

According to those helping me, I didn't actually have to have any internals forwarded at all, but that may differ depending on your router.

My router setup ended up looking like this:

I followed your advice, thats what I meant with seperatly.
Looks a liitle different on my Fritzbox:

I use diffent ports because I use the standart ports on my ubuntu machine.

I don't believe you need TCP for 15636 or 15637. Any reason you're forwarding both @Fortigan?
m4nt4 Feb 22, 2024 @ 10:09am
I solved my issues.
I only forwarded the UDP query port.
On my windows machine, I need to start the server by hand from it's directory, if I start it via Steam it won't show up.
This game is really finicky with router port settings it seams.

The instructions did specifically state that you needed to forward the TCP and UDP of both. Whether that is true I have not tested. I just know they are both forwarded on mine and it works.

Dedicated Server Workaround

German:
Hi
ich konnte den Client 'xxxx' not authenticated by steam (error 6)

English:
Hi
I had the client 'xxxx' not authenticated by steam (error 6) fixed
on a dedicated server where I did the following:

To eliminate this error so that other players can join the server, it worked for me by first creating a server in-game and letting the players connect. I then uploaded the files “3ad85aea, 3ad85aea.info and characters” (created automatically) from the local save folder to the “Savegame” folder on the server, released ports and started the dedicated server. A connection was then possible without any problems.
Server runs as a Docker container.

I get this:
[online] Session failed for peer #1 with error 4.
STEAMPS3 - AsncTCPSocket destroyed
[online] Removed Peer #1.
LooPinG Aug 24, 2024 @ 8:14am
The same goes for a Steam problem, where you can't connect to the server with the same error message:

[online] Session failed for peer #1 with error 4.
