Unable to find dedicated server, unless someone is on it
I know there have been plenty of posts about the topic of dedicated servers not being found. But I couldn't really find a report of my experience.

So just to nail down the basics, my server is not a local hosts.
It's an actual dedicated server on a different machine within my network.

1st off, I was not able to connect myself at all until I found the recommendation to add my server throught the steam favourites. This allowed me to connect to my own server.

Unfortuantely this did not work for my pal. If hetried to add my server, he would simply get the message, the server could not be found.
This changes if I'm connected to the server. As soon as I'm on the server my pal can connect to it, and even save it to his favourites. He can remain on the server and keep playing even if I shut down the game on my end. As soon as they are on, they are on.

But as soon as they leave, Steam will again show my server as not responsive and they won't be able to reconnect until I'm on the server again myself.'

One thing I realized is, that my ISP is running carrier grade NAT, so my public IP and my WAN IP differ. When I add the server to my favourites, I have to use my WAN IP. The issue might be related as I can't deploy the port forwarding on that level but only once it hits my own router. But then, why is it working while I'm on it?
And why does it work for "Host" sessions that can be found even though technically there should not be a difference.

It's not just you, the server that my group uses, is hosted through G-Portal, and I can't see the server unless one of my friends is online playing on it, even if I search for it (useless ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ garbage search function, why the ♥♥♥♥ does it even exist?)

Also, don't buy through G-Portal, their servers are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, and they're a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ company.

Well, I guess they are aware of the issue. You can't book Enshrouded Servers through them anymore. Even if you already have a Server with them, you can't switch the game on it to Enshrouded.

the same thing happens here. it took me a long time to understand that it wasn't a port issue or something, until my friend connected and I joined him

If you are having trouble finding the server by its ip address/port, try incrementing the port number you are looking for by 1. Enshrouded uses different ports for the game server and the query service (used to identify a game server)

For example, if your game server is running on '10.10.252.128:26265', try to add '10.10.252.128:26266' as a favorite server in Steam.

Unfortunately has nothing to do with it. At least not in my case. I forwarded both the GamePort and the QueryPort.

I managed to connect to the local server... what I did was go to the favorite servers and manually add the local IP of the machine along with the port (192.168.0.xxx:15636) and miraculously it appeared in the list. Now I can connect without having anyone logged in there.

Connecting to a local server has never been an issue. The issue is connecting to remote dedicated servers. As long as someone can connect through local network, people can connect remotely through that player. And as long as a player is on that server, no matter if he is local or remote, others can join through him. But if all disconnect, a local player has to join first to make the server visible again.

I can not tell if it is an issue with Steamworks or the game itself. But we have by now verified, that it is possible to have a visible dedicated server. The key seems to be to have a dedicated public IPV4 address.

I have t he exact same issue. My friends cannot add the server either through steam game servers or by adding it in the game. Only my self sitting on a different computer on the same network can add the server and join it, and then my friends can join me.
Did anyone find a solution to this issue? 2024.november
