However, due to the way they have packaged the game files, even a single byte change requires a touch/rewrite of the entire 30.5gb enshrouded.kfc_data single-file archive.
When Steam updates a game there are two stages; The download stage, followed by the application stage. During the latter Steam will show x / 30.5GB as it is touching and rewriting that single 30.5gb file with the updates that have been downloaded.
But again, you're not actually downloading all of that, it's just Steam telling you it's having to go through a lot of data on disk.
You can verify this yourself by checking the network vs disk usage in either Steam or the task manager during an update.
So no, you DONT download 8.4gb ...
Having the same issue. Thank you for the explanation.
So patching the game used my network?
Steam says 8MB/s network and very little on disk usage. this is confirmed by task manager.
Some people are having this happen to them, if it isn't happening to you great, If all you can say to "I've got a problem" is "no you don't" it's probably best not to post. There's many people complaining of this issue, and yeah some of them are confused by "patching" but this isn't everyone and there's clearly something going on.
Have you found a solution to this? Currently experiencing the same thing. I've finished downloading the patch, and now I'm stuck at the Installing stage. Restarting the PC didn't do anything. Now I'm about to reinstall the entire game.
