eternal spell quest

So I was trying to get to the eternal spell quest but no matter which way I try to approach the area all I can see is the red deadly shroud. When I tried to glide across I landed in an area where there was walls to high to climb or jump out of and I was trapped in the shroud. Can anyone advise on how they reached the location safely?

Upgrade your altar level, it will make red shroud into blue one.

So other than that is there a path to the location that I'm missing?

Nah, the chest containing the spell should be in that bit of Shroud and is inaccessible until you upgrade the altar. I believe it is inside a Tomb but it's a bit too far in to get to if the Shroud is still red.

so the red shroud that I accidentally walked on will change to a safer version once I level up more?

Not the red terrain fungus, that will always stay deadly.
The red-ish fog in certain areas turns into blue-ish fog and becomes traversible when you strengthen your flame.

I think you've got about 3 seconds in the red fog, so no time to go down and retrieve AND get back out

The more you upgrade the alter the more red shroud areas you can enter.

Honestly, they're not that hard to upgrade. It's quicker than finding workarounds.
