Can't join friends server

I tried hosting, my friend on the other side of the nation tried hosting and when we searched for the names of our hosted games neither could be found.

We had the same issue and my friend did some research. I am not sure if I have the exact right explanation but apparently it uses steam to find the servers and you must be in the same area on steam. You need to go the the steam settings and change your area to the same as your friend and it then shows up. We play a lot of online games and this is the only one we have had to do that with. Hopefully they will fix this.

Same happened to me and friend. What we did was the host starts the game and then goes to the Friends & Chat box on Steam and clicks on the friend's name to invite them to play, go back to the game's main menu page and the friend's name will be on the left. Click on that, follow the prompts.

change to the same steam download region under steam settings.

drkwilly's solution solved my problem. We used the US - Atlanta server as a common point.
